Sorry - I was too quick off the mark, and I've now found the details:
'HD' = 16/44 'UHD' = 24/192
Note the proviso they say '...up to..' above speeds so not everything may be so wonderful.
I used to use the free-with-prime Amazon Music and it was OK, but very limited content.
Like many people I already have a 12 month subscription elsewhere (Qobuz) so Amazon are too late for me..

As far as I can see from the publicity, Amazon just refer to 'double/10 times bit rate' or 'ultra HD'. Have you seen anything that says the actual specs?

As a student, I lived almost exclusively on TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) not by choice, but because it's all I could afford. I grew to hate the stuff and ever since I can't eat any of the 'mock meat' products, they all seem to have the same 'aftertaste'.

you can get some bargains on colour laser if you shop around as Slinger suggests. I managed earlier this year to get a Brother Colour Laser for near enough half price - it was much less than the cost of replacing the ink cartridges on my old Canon. Print quality is good too.

Yes - we used to use minidisc recorders at Uni for speech recording. Their sound quality was way better than cassette. The down side was the huge cost of the discs.

I thought this was a joke when I first read it... I did check the date on the article, just to be sure..

When I was a young 'un it used to be: The Navy Lark, Round The Horn, Beyond Our Ken, The Likely Lads, Tony Hancock, Jimmy Clithero, The Arthur Askey Show, The Arthur Haines Show, Frankie Howard, Ted Ray, Dad's Army Benny Hill Steptoe And Son - which might account for my sense of hour - which seems to be a problem for some here. Sunday night after evening mass getting ready for a bath for school next day, when I lived with my Gran, Cliff Adams' Sing Something Simple with The Black And White Minstrels. What a mournful and depressing hour that was. Clinton Ford, Edmundo Ross, Max Jaffa, Family Favourites, Tin Tin, Dick Barton, Sexton Blake and Paul Temple, Ray Alan with Lord Charles (ventriloquist act). Radio Luxembourg (Tony Prince) & Caroline. I found a US Forces station that used to be good. In the 70s/80s The Goodies, a number of Radio 4 comedy shows which I can't remember the names of and The News Huddlines. I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue used to be a howl when Humphrey Lyttleton chaired it and Graeme Garden used to be teamed with Barry Cryer. Jack Dee chairs it now and he's not bad. Now, it's Radio 4 all the time. Sometimes Radio 4 Extra on my mobile and sometimes Classic FM. Toying with the idea of getting a DAB transmitter to use with an old Ferguson radio. I'm with the oldies and remember all those shows (they're still around on R4Extra a lot of the time) Radio Luxembourg in my youth, nowadays almost exclusively R4 - Our dinner time coincides nicely with the 6:30pm comedy slot such as Mr Whippy says, though I think the standard has fallen a bit and there's a few that I don't listen to.

Makes a lot of sense as for right turns you'd be crossing oncoming traffic. Not sure it does much for the environment though as you'd probably end up travelling much further. I'm not sure I believe the notion that it avoids sitting with the car idling.
I'm struggling to think how I could get from my house to Sainsbury's without any right turns ! I might end up in Scotland.

That page also led me onto an article on why streaming isn't better for the planet than CD's. That too is worth reading..

From my experience I find the biggest cable differences are with analogue interconnect, follow by speaker cable. Digital interconnects have only a minimal impact on my system although digital RCA seem to be better than optical.

I bought the 55 (LGC8) because the table wasn't big enough for a 65, not sure if my eyes can take it either..

I'm a little confused (or maybe others are) at the distinction between 'files' and 'streaming' that some people are making. Files are my means of storage (ripped CD), as per the OP question. To play them I have to stream them, albeit locally. Am I being pedantic, or just plain dumb? streaming(note the 'in addition.... )

A recent change in my habits due to signing up for Qobuz. I used to listen mainly to FLAC files ripped from my CD's, and occasionally Amazon Music (the free-with-Prime version)
Now I find I use Qobuz HiFi almost all the time, once in a blue moon my FLAC files and no longer Amazon.

For us oldies - I remember the old 2-round-pin bakelite plugs. The wires were usually just twisted onto the pins and it was extremely easy to get a shock when accidentally touching the pins while plugging in. Saving grace was that: a. I think they were only rated for about 6 amps b. People like me who regularly messed with electrics sort of got used to getting shocked every now and then

Just a note to say that as far as I'm aware, the 'gapless' ability seems to rely on the combination of the streaming service (in this case of course Qobuz) and the method used to do the streaming. It's not just down to the streaming service itself. As I've previously said (I think) I run Qobuz via the Bubble UPnP app, using my StreamX as the renderer and I get gapless no problem. Jandl..(as above) seems not to be able to get gapless using a PC.
Maybe someone can enlighten as to the exact technicalities of it..

Can one have an open mind while at the same time not believing ?
I was just getting around to the notion that Black Ravioli might have a useful place in some systems, but I read their product page to see that they're recommending their use under laptop music servers.
Really? I can feel my mind closing again.........

I've never heard of using ferrite rings on speaker cables - you learn something new every day !
