Digital sound via Sky HD and the Caiman-II is often very good indeed.

It's the horrendous compression they apply whenever anyone on BBC live music programmes plugs in a guitar amp. They seem obsessed with the idea that vocals must be crystal clear at the expense of every other element of the music.

Not disagreeing with that, Chris, but I can specifically hear improved sound by switching between BBC Two and BBC Two HD channels.

I rather liked DakhaBrakha on last night's show. Not sure about the first David Gilmour song, sounded rather ordinary.

Good to see both Richard Hawley and John Grant on the latest show.

Enjoyed this week's show - looking forward to the extended version tonight. Guy Garvey and Dave Gahan were both in fine voice, and enjoyed the rather wacky Caravan Palace.

Many years ago I made the dreadful mistake of buying a Joanna Newsom album. It's possibly the worst album in my entire collection and quite, quite unlistenable. In the final Jools Holland she confirmed exactly how awful she really is. Thank goodness she was followed by Low, and what a contrast that was!

Didn't get all the way through the first disc and promptly put it on Ebay. Superb harpist but oh that voice.

She damaged my chin - she started singing and my mouth dropped open on my desk
Wondered if it was some sort of joke or parody

She's actually toned down the little girly voice somewhat from earlier work.

Just for a reminder I put YS on tonight, the second time it's ever come out of its box. I randomly selected track 3 Sawdust and Diamonds. After a couple of minutes of grinding punishment I had to admit defeat and take it off before the end.
How is it possible that the agent, recording engineer, record company, distributor or shops didn't say "come off it, Joanna, the joke's over. Can we have the real album please"?

Enjoyed this week's show ... and enjoyed the rather wacky Caravan Palace. Thought Caravan Palace were great - brilliant to see an act that were really enjoying themselves in an age when all musicians want to look so serious/tortured !
