First Aid Kit were very good. I've dropped their 2014 album into my Amazon basket. I haven't heard the new album but have their previous lp on vinyl - 'The Lion's Roar' ... Great song. Whilst I really like it as an album, I wasn't convinced by the recording. Saying that I haven't listened to it since re-tubing my phono stage, so must re-visit.

First Aid Kit were very good. I've dropped their 2014 album into my Amazon basket. Saw them at their sold out Royal Albert Hall gig on Wednesday Martin, wonderful night and they are really getting the recognition they deserve now - seen them three times now. I think their second album (The Lion's Roar) however is better than their latest. It's still good but the change of record label has I think subtly changed things and I'm not sure I like the fuller more commercial sound. They did an unplugged song too, quite brave in the RAH to sing at the edge of the stage without microphones, but it worked and the crowd loved it. Klara has an outstanding voice which really came over without anything helping it along. Live Review: First Aid Kit at London’s Royal Albert Hall (9/24)

As something of a Swedophile I have a broad range of Swedish and Swedish/English or in this case Swedish/American music:) Have to get the 2014 album now!

Klara has an outstanding voice which really came over without anything helping it along. Klara's the dark haired one? Interesting, judging by their Jools Holland performances, I thought they both had outstanding voices.

Yes Klara has dark hair - her voice is to me a lot more powerful than Johanna's. She takes lead most of the time too, with Johanna at times almost her backing vocalist - but together they achieve that mystical 'third voice'. Quite something to sell out the RAH whilst touring their third album as well, deserved though. A really mixed audience too.

together they achieve that mystical 'third voice'. They really did - so much so that I played their Jools Holland songs again. Mesmerising.

You should try and catch them live if you can Martin, they are a lot of fun on stage too - getting harder now though

I rather enjoyed GoGo Penguin! Me too Well I just watched the second show and thought it was great, not a duff moment at all for me. Marianne Faithful with Anna Calvi on guitar, how good was that? Really enjoyed Mary J. Blige too, especially her song with just Jools on the piano. The only act I was not familiar with were GoGo Penguin and they were great, bet they would be fun live? I did think First Aid Kit didn't come across that well during their first song (My Silver Lining), Stay Gold was better, but nonetheless what a great show it was last week This is my favourite FAK song Martin, their voices together in this gives me goosebumps, I really like the lyrics and sentiment of the song too - I don't think they will be playing venues like this much more though. It's a funny thing watching young artists grow, you want them to do well, but selfishly not too well as it becomes harder to see them.

I felt the same about Texas early in their performing career, never thought all these years later I'd be seeing them again.

I bought the new Go Go Penguins CD a few weeks ago. It's a great album. There seems to be a few young bands around at the moment doing jazz that stays this side of inaccesable. Badbadnotgood and Go Go Penguins label mate Matthew Halsall being examples. I suspect hard core jazz purists may find it a bit 'easy' but I have found some jazz to be just too difficult. In fact some of it really does sound like the stuff on the Fast Show Jazz Club....nnnice....gggrreat.

Know what you mean. But the softer stuff can get you into more core stuff. I would never have listened to Hard Bop and the like had I not eased into it. Still it only makes up a small proportion of what I listen to I guess. Some music just clicks and some doesn't seem to to.
I've not watched the 2nd show yet but sounds like a reasonable ride:)
I got a recommendation for: Searching for Sugar Man by Rodriguez, from a fellow hifi who was here a couple of weeks ago - I like it.

I'm in the minority here. Unimpressed with the lot That's a shame Mike as there was an awful lot of talent on show - still, one less person I have to fight for a First Aid Kit ticket Didn't you even like Band of Skulls or Hozier?
