To have been through such trauma. You are a survivor, Colin, and I salute you.

Thanks Martin but I have met other poor folk that have and are still going through much more than I have ever had, poor sods. At least I have my true friends and loved one near me who wanted nothing but my silly humour and crazy ideas about how to grow strawberries in a plastic 4 pint milk bottles (OK M, I told you it would work blah). Sorry just a tiny nudge note to my friends Maria and Sam.

I get the 'jobs for me' everywhere I go. "Martin, you know my computer..." Yes I feel your pain. I run a building company, there is nothing we can't do relating to property. "oh, while your here, can you have a quick look at this." A friend of mine who John has met is a Paediatric Doctor, those who have kids have a million questions; his first degree was in electrical engineering and he also has a degree is computer science. His phone is red hot with people wanting 'favours'

I get the 'jobs for me' everywhere I go. "Martin, you know my computer..." I did get that but once I went Edinburgh Uni at 50 and another degree and tell people I will charge them £200/hr because I have to find money for tutorial fee's, it is surprising the customers I send to PC World and peace prevails. Try it Marin, oh I hate computers but love CAD CAM so I have to use it but no games none on any of my 4 PC's. Movies yes GAMES/FOOTBALL NO. (just for my 9 yr old nephew Jamie)

Best part of this job(except the time off) is no one bothers you like that!! Here Chris go and give us a hand getting oil/gas out the ground will you? Doesn't happen. Did have a pal want me to shift his hot tub for him with a crane once as he hadn't really thought through the delivery logistics and it was left at the front of his house. Twat. Eventually had to go up and over his garage. Also the Mrs never bothers me with jobs either - she knows I've done my bit when I get home. I utterly detest DIY so that's a real boost. Makes her a keeper as well.

Movies yes GAMES/FOOTBALL NO. (just for my 9 yr old nephew Jamie) That's simply the truth for me, Colin. No computer game will ever darken my PC

(just for my 9 yr old nephew Jamie) I have a love hate relationship with CAD CAM, these days when I design I find that using Paper and pens I get, shall we say leaps of intuition that don't come if I design on computer. I still use the same drawing tools I got over 40 years ago to do my Tech Drawing and Engineering O levels. I have invested in a newer parallel action drawing board however, it's only 35 years old.

I used to be an avid gamer with a huge collection of games and consoles. I used to buy every console on its Japanese relapse and likewise with import gaming titles. If feels like another life now and I have absolutely no inclination to play games.

I understand the gaming enthusiast and their desire to build hyper-machines to achieve enormous frame rates at ultra-high resolutions.
...but the fact is that games are poorly written, explore undocumented calls and procedures and generally trash the machine that they're installed on. That's why I would never allow my son to install games on my machine with the consequence that his was frequently buggered while mine remained clean and operational.

How strange - I've never experienced such issues; my machine(s) run like a dream I guess it depends on the games. @singularity: Have you held onto your old consoles and games?

I did really well with my Sega collection when I sold them. I had a lot of Saturn and Dreamcast rarities and also some MD and SNES titles. I sold about 800 games. I also cleared about 100 PS2 and Xbox 360'games (most unplayed) to an animal charity we support. I still have a 360 and maybe 30 games. I also still have a N64 because we both loved Mario Kart 64 so much. If we ever play a game again, it will be that one.
I think the demise of Sega as a major force really dampened our interest. The decline in our gaming was inevitable from that point.

Wow! Sounds like you were quite the collector. I'm very partial to the MD-era Sega titles myself. I think I'd also want to hang onto MK64 - fantastic game. If you ever feel like dipping in again, the most recent MK is a real return to form, and some of the best tracks are the N64 make-overs.

It makes me sound like an old fart, but I have never played a game since Donkey Kong on a portable machine. I would love to stay for a few days with someone who has a good set up, but I'll never buy a consol or I will probably get hooked

Genuinely saddened to read of your circumstances; you seem to have had it coming at you from all sides, Mr W. You tend to imagine other people are pretty much like yourself. You treat and regard them in a way you would like to be and assume they will do likewise. With some though, that doesn't happen. Even so, you give them the benefit of the doubt. At some point, however, you're faced with the reality that some people really are just, well, er, shits. It's their nature and they're only out take advantage of others.
I've done an inventory and it seems I have 21 amps (!). Most of which don't work. So not really in need of another one. But, I would like to offer what little support I can. Although I don't imagine buying a few circuit boards is going to radically help. Are the boards available now and is there an address?
I know you don't want to discuss TQ cables, which is fair enough, but can I ask what directed your attention in that direction in the first place. And you seem to be perfect one to ask: does cable directionality really exist - outside the minds of the deluded? And burn-in?

Hi Colin
Very sorry to hear all that.
I did PM you over 6 months ago, asking you to design me an amplifier for real money. I gave Noel Keywood as a reference but heard nothing from you ?
Regards
Dave
