My music room has been a haven away from food, drink, board games etc. Yes, I've had a great deal of listening in the last few days thanks, Rob. How's the repaired amp sounding? Happy Christmas Martin and thanks for asking. The amp is sounding lovely actually. The noise is now greatly reduced it is sounding stellar as I know it to sound when on song. It's the second big Sansui I've owned, my first was the AU-919 which was excellent with a more forward presentation than this AU a707DR I now have, which is very balanced, detailed, great depth, non fatiguing and just lets the music flow through without getting in the way - I love it. Was a late night last night, album after album, same again as awe speak. I will have to try and prise myself away at least until later in the evening otherwise the Mrs and my daughters might start to think I'm just a lodger.....

Back when I started following F1, I was a Nigel Mansell fan. Boy, he knew how to man-handle a car around a track. I still remember watching him around Brands Hatch, the noise those cars made was like the end of the world. Then there were the Schumacher drought years when the excitement dropped to nil. Once Hamilton joined McLaren, I followed him avidly and still do. Russell and Sainz are two drivers I like to follow and probably will continue to do so once Hamilton retires. Excellent ! Like Sainz a lot and hope Ferrari dont do his head in with frustration there. And please we get Perez in a good seat, no disrespect to Albon but Perez in the Red Bull would defo make it just that bit harder for MB, IMO.

Yeah, typical dull Abu Dhabi but good job Max.
MB did seem to be nursing a car today and will be happy where they ended up. They stopped upgrading the car ages back and have been focusing on the 2021 car for ages.
2021 - Lets hope Vettel shines in the new Aston Martin (old Racing Point) seat.
McLaren have done really well and have been getting better each season after falling back a lot. 3rd in the championship shows their intent and is around £4million in the coffers more than the 4th place amount. They've also struck some big deal as well, I'm led to believe.
Riccardo and Norris together for McLaren next year looks a good pairing, they'll defo push each other too.
As Lewis has been saying for ages and today, lets hope they sort the drag and negative effective on car behind issue as it kills the potential for much more proper racing.
Be good to see LH and Max having some good on track battles, although I've always thought there's more potential for shunt with Max which wouldn't be good for my boy Lewis in terms of potential dnf then.
I'd like to see Ferrari get right back up there. Actually wouldnt it be fab to have at least four, even fives teams as close as in terms of pace.
Been into F1 since I was a kid and always been a big LH44 fan, so I do find the winter break hard going - lol, Bring on Feb testing......

You want to be very careful of course if it's DC on the outputs - could do nasty things to the speakers. Oh dear

I'm experiencing a whoosh / air sound from my speakers when I turn the volume on the amp up. I can really hear it when volume up quarter way.
Any ideas what causes this and what I need to do ?

I think you're right Martin. I think I was fortunate to hear my first one sounding as it should, which was lovely, albeit for only weeks.
The two I've had after that, were literally in the last few months so again, that's a lot of hours/yrs on the clock, 30 year old lasers etc. Analogue sections and powers supplies can play up too, after that time.
I guess, I'm probably experiencing these players, whilst aesthetically lookers, they are likely no longer operating sonically optimum, hence the poor replay I'm hearing with them - they are probably tired.

I'm almost ready to go / purchase Transport-DAC. One thing I need to ask is has anybody had a cdp go from sounding fab one moment and then without warning just sound rubbish / broken ? This happened to me with a lovely vintage Pioneer PD-91 - sublime to cr&p sound without any hint of prior warning. I've had two other 91's in my system since and they too haven't sounded particularly good / anywhere like when my first one was on song. I've tried a different Line input/output on the amp and no change so I'm assuming it is definitely the cdp's not being optimum, these cdp's are 30 years old no matter how gorgeous they look. At the same time, could it be something the else, the amp even ? (which i don't think it is) Just putting the question out there before I move another 91 on, buy the Transport and DAC only to find that something still isn't right. It's odd that the two 91's I've had in since the first one suddenly went bad sounding', both haven't sounded great at all to my ears, hence me deciding it's time to move away from these vintage cdp's and try another approach. *I also think it would be a good idea if I was to hear my current PD-91 in another system. Should have done this a bit back, I was hoping to get the 91 up on eBay this weekend to fund things and take advantage of the £1 final sellers fee, before it expires

Well, that's easy then. You need a co-ax digital S/PDIF cable with phono plugs both ends. Future Shop give very good service, by the way. Nice one and agreed Martin, have had great dealings with them in the past and recently, hence will be going back. Thanks again

Thanks Martin, very helpful.
I know a bit more now than I did before, thankfully.
I will use the good rca's I already have, to connect DAC to amp.
I'm likely to go digital coaxial for the Transport to DAC connection, although someone said I need coax to coax for that - what plug configuration does that mean ? (Future shop plug configuration options show BNC or RCA....)

After going the vintage cdp route I've decided I've had enough of reliability concerns and issues, which goes with that territory so it's time for a different approach.
Been reading about stand alone transports coupled with a DAC.
I dont know anything about DACs in particular, or transports for that matter, but have been reading up and know like all things hifi, they dont all sound the same.
That said i've a good idea of the two pieces I'd like to couple together.
My question then is, what connects do I use / can you recommend to 1. connect the transport to the DAC and 2. to connect the transport to the amp ?
Cable recommendations and links would be much appreciated ( Please let me know if reccy is for amp-transport, DAC-transport or both ?

Spot on Martin !
I'm a massive LH fan as you know but i was actually quite amazed by his result today, under the circumstances, conditions, where he started etc just a fabulous drive and result. We always knew he had the talent from the moment he arrived but worse for his competitors is that over the years he's honed great skills, from experience etc which makes beating him not just hard but very difficult indeed.
We now dont just have the speed, on track race craft and amazing skill in the wet and that never give up attitude, he's developed and added patience, superb tyre management and an increased focus.
It really did dawn on me today that we really are witnessing, as you say a supreme talent and that I should really really revel in witnessing it before he retires.
Can you imagine a film covering his life, from childhood, the karting etc the arrival into F1 in 2007, the highs the lows, the great races etc it will be amazing and he hasn't even finished yet.
To win his 7th the way he did today, to win the race...... just excellent.
Legend without doubt and he isnt even done yet - enjoy while he's still in the sport, when he's gone he'll be missed big time.

Indeed!
MBP's success is well earned but we'd have more of a challenge recently if RB got Perez in that second seat to increase there options each race weekend, with a genuine number two, close to VB.
Secondly Ferrari have gone missing and in a way that is shocking. They are a huge F1 team with untold money too, it's almost inexcusable how bad they've got. Leclerc deserves better and so will Sainz.
Just these few things addressed would give MBP more of a challenge and make the weekends / races likely more interesting and exciting.
Felt for Russell btw.....

Mercedes Benz - Petronas - 7 consecutive constructors titles ! LH44 maximising his opportunities, regardless of circumstance, as always.
