"Better than Naim at a lower price": I reckon that should have been JF's accolade.

In a random (impulsive) twist, I've just received a spotless Exposure III preamp / IV power combo, looks awesomely retro. Will take some pics.
It'll be going upstairs into my home studio / second system powering a pair of Royd Sorcerer SEs, which am sure will be a great combination.

These will be used in my second system, but the main system is LFD pre / power with Royd RR3s. When I have some time I'll bring the Sorcerers downstairs and have a listen between it all.

I didn't realise that the amp was so big & heavy! Now I realise why, I thought the "IV" was a lower model...

My normal Class A amp has a wee fault that will be fixed in a couple of days, but in the mean time I have been able to borrow this Classic Exposure X amp from Tinturkey of AOS I have heard most of the classic Expo range but not this one. I'll wire it up tonight and let you know what I think.

Well the Exposure X has been running for about an hour now, I've been sitting here listening to Jamie Culumn Twenty Sometthing, I must admit, this little amp is sounding great, there is a lot of hum when the music is not playing which surprised me. I remember the big Expo gear did the same but not as much, maybe it is because the OB speakers I use now are very efficient. But the sound is great, a lot smaller scale then the big SECA that I normally use, but in every other way this amp has it, very natural, enjoyable and convincing.

Yeah have heard the the X hums & hisses, but that it's a musical amp. I popped the top off my Exposure IV, I wondered why it was so heavy for a stereo amp, and now I know why! I've never seen a C-Core transformer being used, anyone got any info around it? The mahoosive caps (I think?) have been replaced along the way, which is good.

Damn that looks pretty impressive inside! It's not so often you see the full area of the case being packed out like that ...

Wow LFD, as you probably know that ain't no standard IV power amp, I wonder how it sounds compared to a stock unit?

I only used it for a couple of days then my normal amp was fixed. There was not the scale with the little Exposure, but you very quickly forget about hifi and get involved with the music.

They have a knack of doing that don't they.
I am now quite interested in hearing the Exposure 3020s2 Pre and Mono combo as I have been hearing good things about them and would be keen to see how they compare to the XVII and XVIII combo I currently have.

Hi, I joined today! I bought my first Exposure not terribly long ago, a 2010s2 integrated. I currently use that amp at the desktop with a DAC, CD and tuner. I enjoyed it so much that I began serious research of Exposure's history and of course the first thing was the Farlowe era. I'll write sparingly, since most of you will know what I would say in any event, and get to the pictures. The main system is currently a Dual Regulated 4 (all original) with a 3010s2 preamp. I can't get enough of this system -- it's pure music. Here are some pictures of the 4DR: - --

The 3010s2 pre mates well with the older gear. As you can see above (DR4), I run the new preamp with the amp of old and it's simply an amazing combination. The 3010s2 strikes me as extremely transparent, and so in no way does it get in the way of the get up and move your fat ass! effect of the 4DR.

Interesting, I was recommended to try it the other way around, i.e. move to the 3020s2 mono power amps first and keep them with the 17 pre until funds permit to buy the the 3020s2 pre. I believe amps are going to be my next upgrade for sure, I think the 17/18 Exposure's are a capable amp combo and worked amazingly well with my Epos speakers, but I think (just a guess really) they struggle to get the best out of the Focal's. Although they more than held their own with an Integrated amp I recently trailed, surisingly so (to me) and which was quite a bit more expensive than the Exposure 3020s2 pre/mono combo which is a reason I'd like to hear them
