Sorry l miss understood... l thought you where running two separate SMF. l can't imagine any difference in sound, regardless of length, if there the same.

There was a perceived difference, subtle, but too much fiddling about to be sure
Doubt much variation between a 2 metre Cisco cable and a 5 metre

There I was thinking that maybe the recent mods were fading away or I had just got used to the sound improvements
Back on the album playlist. Oh. Magnificent
What a fantastic sound
Must get out the Mad Scientist bottle of magic and spread around some more
Never thought I could own a system sounding this good

Open a new tab and go to play.qobuz.com
You can get the links and album artwork from that tab so keep it open.

You can get a track or album link from three-dots menu. Then paste into the forum post.
Click the album artwork for a larger version, long-press and Copy Image Link. Then paste into the forum Insert Image button.

I use the tablet for Bubble and Qobuz
Laptop for everything else as I prefer Windows to Android, especially a keyboard and bigger screen
Must look into Bubble on Windows

Sorry, I forgot it's a laptop - substitute right-click for long press.
There is no Bubble for Windows. It's Android only.

A great deal has happened in and around the kitchen diner system
Pioneer PD S703 CD Player SMSL Q5 Integrate amp Monitor Audio Speakers
We had the engineered wood floor replaced with Porcelain tiles with Marmox insulated board under.
Common sense told me to remove the system while the work was done. That didn't happen, can't do without music ! - although it did move around a *lot*. The curtains were removed first, a lot of the furniture was taken out, then even more later on. The plan was to pull up the wooden flooring in sections and replace with the Marmox and tiles. Wasn't quite as successful as expected and the work was delayed and stopped often This meant I could run the the album playlist many times from September 11 to December while the room changed and the system moved around No surprise the acoustics changed a lot, but I found the sound to be different rather than worse.
The system is now back where it started with the same accessories MCRU mains cable for the CD Target stand for the CD and amp, MA speakers on their own make stands, tilted up slightly by design Granite placemats on the CD, coasters on the Amp and PSU RDC cones in place and it sounded good with me sitting much closer to the system
I picked up some Black Ravioli not long ago, not certain where to put them in the main system so put them in this one The Pioneer sits on 3 BRs, on an RDC shelf on RDC cups and bases The SMSL sits on BR as does the PSU
Since the BRs came along I notice a distinct lift in sound quality and that seems to have improved
Hardly a 'balanced' system but it delivers more music
Next move is to try with the BR swapped out for RDC cones
In the meantime I am digging the sounds man

Need to check if the BRs really make that much difference, when I can bear to stop the music

Sounds like some nice accidental experimenting Mike. It really shows the importance of the room and positioning.

BRs are so additive, if I removed all of mine (a big task) the system would be severely degraded.

The idea is to use them on the main system As they were lingering I thought I might as well employ them on system 2 Didn't expect much, certainly not what I have heard

Another delight
The second system had some very long and bulky speaker cable. Not sure I ever knew what it was, coming with the £100 purchase on Ebay of a complete system Sorting out my cables I found a Russ Andrews Kimber pair that just did the job on length
Had a listen with the old cable Swapped in the RA Hmm. Slightly better, nothing to write about
Listening today I noticed all sorts of micro detail, extra bass Has to be the speaker cable. Some years old, bought 2nd hand on Ebay Been in for a week or so, on from around 7am to 6pm
Great sound from an incredibly low budget system Pioneer CD, SMSL Q5, Monitor Audio speakers
Must pay more attention to this system and check what else I might have going spare
That was the very last item in the original purchase of the £100 system from Ebay
