Just to say that I bought a very used and dirty set of Audioquest F14 cables off ebay . When I had made them the right length and attached some copper banana plugs with heat shrink I fitted them to my main system with the Quad ESL . For five minutes they sounded okay then they sounded awful . Left them in place ran the Tara Labs burn in and then next day played some music and they were just so much better and in fact a quite decent upgrade from my previous speaker cables . So I have to conclude that cables if not used for a long time and then put in to a system need to have a decent burn in period before you make any judgement on sound quality . The F14 continued to improve for about three days then remained stable .

Playing the wonderful James Lavelle Naples Global Underground I noticed the quality has stepped up again on the kitchen system More detail previously unheard, more bass, more music
Unexpected Either the Black Ravioli or the Russ Andrews speaker cables

The sound quality on the kitchen system continues upwards
Staggering the extra amount of music coming out of this cheap, over accessorised system
Mentioned it to the boss and she said she had noticed a richer, fuller bass
Makes me wonder about the percentage to be spent, sensibly on accessories for a cheap system

and still
Kitchen diner system continues to improve Not only that The system in the bedroom is also delivering more detail and bass
The main system is a touch better. Harder to notice as I'm streaming new to me music
Guesses as to why I did something to the mains a while back and this has improved the whole house
All rooms are the same acoustically and very few changes in any system for weeks, maybe months

Kitchen system better still. Madness. My thoughts are going towards the mains improvements elsewhere in the house, but maybe those Black Ravioli are improving with weight Rather than wait I decided to give it a boost with spares I have So far RDC platform That sitting on RDC cups ad bases Yes. Subtly better, smoother, nicer sound Switching to CD on the main system. Yes, could be a subtle improvement.

Part of my system ? Mains/battery smoke alarms If one goes off they all go off. Do they talk to each other a lot, via the mains ? If so is this why my mains is so odd ? Current model Aico Ei141 being replaced with above Ei146e Ear defenders useful when testing, the noise is *LOUD*

They are wired together, but I don't think talk to each other across the mains.
All ours go off if one goes off, too.

Hopefully not
That noise kicked my nervous system. No chance of anyone sleeping through it

Ours often goes off with the toaster.

We have a dedicated circuit for the smoke alarms so I could test any sound differences
On the lighting panel of the CU, not the sockets could be good

The newer ones are optical.

Radioactive ? I had no idea Just found out they have expiry dates too. The 141s are well out, 2021

When you don't know what you don't know
Step forward in managing the router supplying the Rendu with interweb
There is such a thing as an RJ45 coupler Not for the Rendu, for the Tivo to dial in. Captive lead, too short to reach the router but with a coupler and another cable I connect directly
Meaning don't have to shuffle the router around, can put the Zero Zone back to supplying juice to the router, better isolation and likely other stuff which will come to me sooner or later
Should mean sound improvements from streaming and a tedious chore removed from my life.
Hmm Move the router closer... dunno

And another thing
Best of Bent in my CD playlist, also in my Bubble playlist
Played CD a few days back and also made comparisons with CD v's streaming, where CD won
Today streaming sounds fabulous. Just love those Bent boys

Erm, you don't mean you're coupling two ethernet connections to one socket in the router? Nooooooooooooo!
Please, mama, can I get off the bumper car now?

Nope As explained. RJ45 in line for the Tivo only Didn't know such things existed or would work

I keep the Tivo well away from the system and even wonder about the extended cable running from Tivo on the left past the back of the system and over to the router on the right. Ferrite chokes probably

A visit from the lovely MartinT last night. Always good to see Some pointers for me that should result in slightly improved sound. Martin had a glimpse into the alternative universe that moves in and out of this house. Tablet, phone and other doing puzzling things. Now I understand a few things about my very own streaming setup it has become easier. Patience helps, previous experience also, as well as a philosophical approach and having a CD ready to play. Rendu reboot required today after yesterday's fiddling and Zero Zone driving the router. Didn't work so tablet rebooted and all came back CD currently playing and sounding great The RJ45 adaptor has enabled me to work out where kit can now sensibly go. Thinking through first, measure twice cut once, or in my case measure, think, sleep on it, measure again, come up with different ideas, sleep on it... Not quite ad infinitum
