To make clearer I should have said
I have to have (not I'm after)
good sound quality, ease of use, good ergonomics - for whatever it is that drives it and sensible price

You need to give us a clue on the amount of money you consider sensible Mike.

l can conclude that,it's average at best, playing Local a different level I agree. I wouldn't have anything as noisy as a NAS in my system.

Thankfully generalised views that all NAS are noisy, is like saying all cars are the same. lt's Mike's agenda thats important, rather than our own, and not going off subject.

You need to give us a clue on the amount of money you consider sensible Mike. Budget could vary with what I get Up to £5000 I guess, but I would like to stay well under that If something comes along that is jaw droppingly good I would have to reassess.

Having an NAS that suppiles files vai the internal network is pretty poor, like having you streaming with no signal conditioning from the IP provider l can conclude that,it's average at best, playing Local a different level
A lot of people have been caught out with this, believing it to be the correct method. I would liken to having a AMG 63 and using 184/60/14 tyres, all that potential just strangled before you can unleash it.
Good observation Damien

Personally, l would pay a visit to Tony, where he can guide you by your ears

So this is for a streamer that can also play files?

A device to RIP, good interface, storage of xTB Perhaps like the X50 you described after visiting Tony

I get that, but presumably you want streaming as well??

If the streaming is built in so be it. I have the Bluesound to stream already

They are streaming modules and streaming modules like dac's not all are created equally

I guess it depends what you want from streaming - a £500 Bluesound is not likely to fare so well against a 5k machine that plays files or a TAD cd player.

Or a £2K dedicated streamer only no file playback, or have £8K worth of inforstructure before the streaming device itself.
You don't need to have multi box monster system tell the differenices simply and easily look at Johns systems I would say that is close to what most people would consider a high end sound.
If you guys look hard enough you will find a public domain available streaming module that is fitted to quite a few high end dac/strteamers and its very good like in the five figures good the cost of these products.
Do a bit of home work, make a quality psu and case and you will kick a great many so called referneces into orbit cost of the O.E. module 199 euo's.
Making sound as good as it can, well thats many hours of R&D and listening, time and machining, benchm, arking, safty testing and CE certification, warranty, back up. Oh wait that why you purschase these products all ready built
System matching, and total noise removal, good room and sensible spending and hey you are there.
Wish to delve to the heart of the music, that's not Ebay or ali express I'm sorry, but it doesn't mean you can't put togther a great sound for smaller realistic outlays.
For a big bad dealer (boo, hiss) I've shared great many of you in on products (we don't retail), tips and tricks that really work for the benefit of the community.
My own systems don't contain many products purchased off the shelf at all so you could say I'm a proessional DIY'er who's a bit more accurate lol.
Sound repoduction isn about mega a bucs systems, its about a shared love of music and exploring all forms of the art, how we listen is very personal and how we like our own sounds also.
I'm fond of this saying but its truthful, when you listen t something with is intrinsically correct, theres no going back at WHATEVER the individal's reference is.
Although asking me to listen to an LP12 252/300 and Neat speakers would be just a step to far!

Added Shunyata Sigma power cords to my (2) REL 212SE subwoofers. Also upgraded to Morrow high gain subwoofer cables. Both subwoofers sit on EVP Footers.

After playing all my Caravan CDs and streaming one from Spotty I'm back on the album playlist Expecting great music from some of my favourite albums No system changes made since last run through
An increase in clarity, separation, deeper bass, back ground moved forward, more music (!) was not expected 6 albums now giving the same sort of effect
Can't work out I did anything Assume something has settled in better
