Similar mods to Martin on a Technics You didn't have the multi-stage Paul Hynes regulators that made mine pretty unique. It also had a Mike New bearing and ETP platter and a SpeedySteve ebony armboard. Also, a stunning Dynavector DV507-II arm. No Paul Hynes MN bearing and platter SS ebony armboard Fidelity Research arm

I thought you liked black gear, Mike. That's half way to silver! You've been hanging out with Martin for too long! Very nice and tidy and pretty free of dust too. I can see the foot of a podium peeking in as well.

Hah !
When I get around to dusting I'll take another pic or two and show off the black card I use on the Vida and PSU
Black is the new black
Twas a Podium foot - with silver bits !

Shame Mike couldn't get a good pic of the speakers - they're always wobbling around ...

Be good to get a pic but with the speakers blurred - due to having the volume up very high

Looks great Mike, thanks for sharing.
Is that a liquid music pre - one of Tony's? Now the TAD is doing pre duty?

Yes, the Liquid Pre.
Compared to the existing TAD's own internal pre
Slightly better sound but the TAD as CD player, DAC and Pre is in a world of its own for VFM. One box doing all three with integral PSU does not make sense for the price.
Add on the extra cables for the Liquid I couldn't justify it to myself even though I was tempted

Yeah from what I heard at Tony's place (2018, last time back home) - a liquid power amp, it was spectacular sounding.
The TAD must be superb - happy days!

Took me a while to be convinced by the TAD. Hearing the RTZ in the system finally opened up what it could do. The Mk2 is the one

DO try this at home, but carefully of course Ask your parents or a grown up if you are unsure
Needed to move Tivo back, swap over a mains cables so went mad.
All kit off Circuit breaker off All items on the circuit unplugged and plugged 3 times each
All items like filters unplugged from unswitched sockets All switched sockets turned off
Circuit breaker back on
TADs back on and sounding very good indeed. Try this yourselves and be amazed.
Next up will be plugging mains filters and the like back in. What a great sound for no money Lower and fuller bass, percussion sharper, touch more detail coming through, clarity up
<thinks> This probably works for interconnects and speaker cables...

Had to plug in the dirty stuff. TV, Tivos, Freeview Box, Amazon Firestick. Portable phone and laptop via a Tacima 6 way mains conditioner
Ferrite chokes all over the place as you might expect
Possibly a drop in quality, slightly constrained sound. Better than I thought it would be

Starting with what I expect to be the biggest improvement
One Kemp SNS added
Wow More detail, width, separation of instruments
Second Kemp SNS added More of the same. Smaller step up, very good nevertheless
First Kemp in an unswitched socket, second in a switched socket Try the second in an unswitched socket.... May or may not be better
Steve Winwood - Chronicles which I didn't think was that well made before. Being revealed nicely to be good if variable volume
More tomorrow

Every now and again there comes a
What if ?
moment
An itch to scratch
One Kemp SNS was on the left of the system mains sockets. The other was on the other side of the room, dead opposite.
What if .... I moved the 2nd one to the now spare socket on the right hand side of the system ? Doubt it will make any difference but worth a punt
Wow ! Immediately noticed it was 'louder', deeper bass, detail coming out from the background.
Another bonkers moment

Fab! I did look for another Kemp but could only find Europlug ones. I've given up for the moment.

Double check time today. Does that pile of stuff on top of the TAD D-1000 really make any difference ? It's not pretty even though black and dark brown. Hmm. Yes. Subtle but noticeable detail and separation. Next up all the mains filters turned off since the arrival of the 2nd Kemp SNS. Bearing in mind MartinT 's test of mains filters I assumed I had the optimum already and these only got in the way. Negative expectation therefore. Mix of Isotek, Tacima, Russ Andrews and PS Audio. Tried one at a time. All delivered a small step up worth having. The accumulated total gives me more width, detail, bass, presence, 'volume' - assume noise floor lowered. I'm on the playlist so music I know very well TAD on 150. Peaking at 85db Wonderful
