More surprises. The system can deliver loads more information from certain albums After the 3 lots of CD treatment some albums take a *big* step up. More detail, more going on, more musical - Not ones you or I might expect
Sonic Youth - EVOL Peter and the Test tube babies - The Mating sounds of South American frogs Awolnation - Megalithic Symphony Art Brut - Brilliant! Tragic ! Various Artists - In defence of animals V2
Others sound better but don't take that step Steve Winwood - Chronicles Caribou - Our love Fragile State - Remixes/Classics 3 CD Ry Harper and Jimmy Page - Jugula Audioslave - Audioslave

Ebay kindly provided a Kemp KE-SNS Shunt Noise Suppressor at a nice price Plugged into a switched socket Ry Cooder - Why don't you try me Sounds fine Switched on the Kemp, played again No. This is my imagination. Off. Not my imagination. Parts of the music are missing, thinner, incomplete in comparison Back on Yes. nice step up SNS Shunt Noise Suppressor Plug

The Kemp SNS was one of the good ones I tested.

Continuing through the playlist and continuing to be surprised at the extra music being delivered
This Kemp Shunt Noise Suppressor is a great bit of kit

I think it's also indicative of how much noise is in your mains, Mike.
It may be worth trying to find another Kemp (or a Sercal) to plug in elsewhere to cut the noise down further.

Needs thinking as I'm out of sockets in this room now with a mix of Russ Andrews, PS Audio, Isotek, Tacima and now Kemp One Isotek in the hall next door. A Tacima in the kitchen Ferrite chokes all over the place

I'm sure this discussion has been had before, but would it not be worth looking at either a filtration system (such as IsoTek or even the Lab12 Gordian) or a mains regenerator, Mike?

The interesting bit
Swapped out my PS Audio P10 for an Audio Magic conditioner as it sounded better Way back up the thread may be the detail
After I got the AM I assumed all the other filters etc wouldn't be required - nope. Brought them back one at a time then added more
There are mains things all over the place here and they all improve the sound
I was slow putting the Kemp in as I was dubious about it even working. Subtle maybe - wrong

Despite my running two regenerators, the Kemp and Sercal plug-ins make a difference. So do the power cables feeding the regenerators.

One day I hope to learn what on earth makes all this kit, interfering (?) with the mains, improve the sound Until then I'll boogie on down

I can't remember any big industrial buildings near you Mike Did Tony ever test what was going on with your mains. I still find with my system if I turn off the system for a minute and restart that works well for me. However in my case I am pretty sure that it is the factory close by causing my issues.

Tony said my mains was odd. Lots of rubbish. He measured all sorts of weirdness on his kit No big industrial around us, just houses. Might be as we are down a small country road, off a small country road off a B road. The back of beyond
Power comes in on an overhead cable. When we had the house refurbed Paul the sparky asked for "X" (forget exactly what X was), as normal but the electricity board said no, possibly because of the overhead. supply

Starting at the beginning of the album playlist with
Bajofondo Tango Club
which I have played countless times and know intimately, rather than well as the tail end of the playlist.
Even at lower volume I thought I could hear more right away. Confirmed noticing percussion seemingly in both far corners of the room a way outside the speakers and a growling, very low bass. Loads more detail, leading and trailing edges of instruments and vocals much more evident. What was background has now joined the foreground Still not loud, TAD set at 136 and db meter peaking at a mere 68. Dynamic range seems enlarged so maybe I'll be listening at lower volumes .... !?
This all down to the magic Kemp Box
Insane. Brilliant. Wonderful and all that stuff
Also wondering if the kitchen system sounds a touch better. Different room and circuit.

Further proof (as if we needed it) that mains noise is destructive to sound quality.
It's been my mantra for a great many years - yours, too.
