Comparisons as promised with the wonderful ...
Bajofondo Tango Club presenta Supervielle
Leaving the system with 4 BDU cables connecting 2 each from TAD D-1000 CD/Pre/DAC and 2 on TAD power amp into the RTZ Very nice. Been listening to this for a few days on the playlist plus others
Swap all 4 BDUs out for 6D cables. Good sound, but not quite right. Sound papery, not quite as smooth or fluid, slightly broken, not as enjoyable.
Swap 2 6Ds out for BDUs in the D-1000 Now I know what was lost. More joined up, fluidity back, air, detail, fuller sound, especially bass.
Swap 2 6Ds out for BDUs in the power amp More of the same with a slightly bigger step up in sound quality.
Just remembered diction has been improved, words are clearer and I am naturally paying more attention to lyrics.

More music is being delivered. A surprising amount. System is the same as it has been for months except the 9 new BDU cables connecting both TAD boxes to the RTZ grounding box Working my way through the playlist and loving what I'm hearing. *Bajofondo make their albums extremely well. Few albums are made this well With the BDU cables added the system reveals stunning amounts of bass, huge space and detail, greater width in the sound. Difficult to believe this is all there on the CD but only revealed with this particular combination working magic. Close to impossible to believe is that I now love the sound of the accordion on their albums TAD setting 142 Peaking at 74 db. Seems much louder as so much music being delivered. * Can't see this on Spotty. Amazon have samples

The steveeb weights and granite place mat on top of the TAD look strange I confess. I tested them some months ago. They improved the sound then so they stayed. Not a great look though. I wondered, do they still make a difference with all the other mods that have happened since ? Can my system look a bit more 'normal' ? L'Arpeggiata brought out to help. Weights removed. Naked TAD. Didn't sound as good as I remembered from a few months back. Same track again to check. Same Lacking dynamics, bit flat. Nice but no sparkle Really ? Weights and granite placemat back on top of the TAD More detail and bass. Top end certainly more detailed. More music. If that does that how about this ? Weights removed. First Black Ravioli pads upside down on top of the TAD with Steve's weights and the granite placemat on top of the BRs' Not sure if that looks better or worse - ah well Sound quality a small step up. Less than the difference the weights made but worth investigating further. James Taylor - Never die young CD arrived today Sounds very good indeed Time to try weights on your kit ? My guess is anything will give an improvement in sound. Remember to protect your kit first if you try an old house brick

I've got granite placemats on everything Mike, so I'm with you if perhaps a little more aesthetically pleasing!

Will test the granite against Steve's wood again Last time I did it Steve won - but the granite made it even better Will also try other weights

After a visit to MartinT and hearing how good his system sounds I started connecting some dots. Joined up thinking in action ! Most obvious was hearing the crowd in the background of Sonny Landreth's Grant Street more noticeable than before. More background heard in other tracks too. Wondered why. Looked at Martin's speakers, positioning in the room, the aim, direct to the sofa I was listening in. Perfect sound right in the middle. Left or right and it was off a bit. Rough measurements taken When I got home I could see the difference between my speakers was less than Martin's Measured and found then almost identical - oh it isn't ! Been putting off adjusting the RHS speaker on its stand and aim for too long. Not a big speaker mover having been used to Isobariks over the years - hard against the wall. Rarely adjusted the width between. Minor changes to the sound only only. Right, the LHS speaker was already in place adjusted quite a while ago. Girded my loins and set about the onerous task of moving RHS speaker and Townshend stand. Ready for blood, sweat and tears Test track from Bajofondo to start. Tried a different tack moving the RHS speaker as the LHS had been awkward. Easy - oh Now the stand, feet buried deep in the carpet. Not bad at all once I was out of the holes. Adjusted. Listened Hmm better, but still not the detail I heard at Martin's. Hang on - the speakers are not equidistant to the chair. Need to move the left speaker a good couple of feet, redirect, check and repeat a few times. Sound check Wonderful Detail and more of the bass I noticed. I may tweak more now.....

Only disadvantage for me now is anyone visiting will have to have my chair to hear the full glory of it all !

Yes, you heard how my system has one hot spot. It's the price of getting it so well focussed.

Today's experiment is to turn the speakers round so they face the listener ... Sorry Mike, as you were ...

Lol Mike, your speakers were feet out of alignment?! Well yes and no. The room has changed in the 18 months or more that the speakers were set up. Furniture moved. Upgraded Hifi kit sold and no longer in the room. This is the start of my speaker positioning and maybe I have it wrong. I took Martin's set up as my template after hearing detail and bass. When Tony set up the speakers he made many adjustments that baffled in that instruments and vocals moved all over the place. Not simple like all to the left or all to the right but inexplicably to me at least some went left or right while others centred and one or two back or forward, up or down (!) A large coffee table has moved away from the line of fire where the left speaker now is. That would not have worked before. A 3 seat sofa moved about a foot further away from the speaker firing line Less total furniture and kit in the room. I will live with this for a while and try other things to see if I can duplicate the things that happened when Tony was setting up. I have noticed already that main vocals are generally a bit left rather then central More to come ...

Today's experiment is to turn the speakers round so they face the listener ... Sorry Mike, as you were ... All things are possible System is different to Isobarik days, 30 years ?, when the choice was Against the wall or against the wall. No toeing in or out Away from the wall not good for good Isobarik sound

Listening to the current album playlist.
Sound is great but I wonder if I have lost something in depth, 3D, space..... ?

Extreme focus can seem like air and space have been lost. The trick is to find both.
