Alan Parker 76. Directed Pink Floyd's The Wall, Evita, Bugsy Malone and others.
I always think of him remembering his classic 70's TV ads. Him and Ridley Scott (separate companies) gave us so many of those classic ads:

Of course back in the 70's there were many crap TV adverts but I think it's fair to say that the best adverts back then we're generally much better than those of today. It's the detail that goes into the scripts and production that makes the difference. It also seems we have nearly completely lost intelligent scripts.

It also seems we have nearly completely lost intelligent scripts. Personally I'd say that applies to the majority of mainstream entertainment that's available via television, not just adverts. Tight well written scripts for anything 'mass media' I find lacking these days. Too much filler, which is the result of the paradox of choice - more is actually less

The VW ad is a miracle of digital manipulation - just so beautifully done.

C P Lee, musician whose band Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias sent up the punk revolution has passed away. The Albertos were a favourite band of mine in the late seventies / early eighties; they were fine musicians with a wonderfully warped sense of humour. OBIT

R.I.P. Martin Birch. If you don't know his name you certainly know his work. Martin engineered the first three Wishbone Ash albums, which is how he first came to my attention, and throughout his career as an engineer, and a producer, he continued to turn out winners, and was always in demand. Fleetwood Mac, Deep Purple, Jon Lord, Bernie Marsden, Whitesnake, Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Iron Maiden, Jeff Beck, Peter Green, The Groundhogs, Stackridge, Canned Heat, John Lee Hooker, Skid Row, The Faces, Gary Moore, Roger Glove, Cozy Powell, and the Michael Schenker Group is a partial CV. OBIT and a few of his hits
