Morricone wrote some brilliant music. I've got his 6CD "Super Gold Edition," and the album Yo-Yo Ma made of his music, both of which may be getting some play-time really soon. I don't think describing him as a "giant" in his field would be excessive.

Years ago when I read about what had happened to him and the state he was in - fingernails inches long - must have been in the NME, I felt really sorry him, thinking back to what he once was. Thankfully, when his plight came to light, eventually he was willing to accept the help some wanted to give.
Said he was 72 on the radio, but it's 73 everywhere else.

This is the day I've been dreading for years. Greeny is the person who did more to inspire my love of music than any other musician, bar none. I probably won't be able to play any of his work for quite some time.
I'm deeply saddened by the loss of a quiet genius.
