I've just read that Leon Redbone died at the end of May. The most half asleep singer in the history of music. RIP

I remember seeing Leon Redbone on the Old Grey Whistle Test, and your description is about right, Chris.

Well, I'm buggered! I'd forgotten all about that, Chris. We've also lost Elliot Roberts. He was Neil Young's long-time manager, but more importantly he formed the Geffen-Roberts Company with David Geffen, and helped Geffen to create Asylum Records in 1970, which merged with Elektra Records in 1972 to form Elektra/Asylum Records, home to many of my favourite acts; Tom Waits, Eagles, The Doors, Bread, the list is almost endless. He was well known for playing a big part in the rise of the "Laurel Canyon" music scene throughout the ’60s and ’70s, and he went on to work with the likes of Tom Petty, David Crosby, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash, Talking Heads, Morrissey, and he helped launch the careers of Tracy Chapman and the Cars. When you think of the West Coast sound, or West Coast Psychedelia (Love etc.) there's a better than evens chance that its an Elektra/Asylum artist, an Elliot Roberts artist, you're thinking of. OBIT

João Gilberto (88) has passed away. The man known as the ‘Father of bossa nova’ died on Saturday afternoon in his house in Rio de Janeiro. His 1964 album Getz/Gilberto with the American saxophone player Stan Getz sold millions of copies, won several Grammy awards and popularised bossa nova around the world. It featured the hit single Girl from Ipanema, sung by Astrud Gilberto, to whom Gilberto was then married. OBIT

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.
I watched c-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.
All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Time to die.R.I.P. Rutger Hauer, aged 75. OBIT

Indeed. One of my all time top films.
Perhaps apropos that he died in the same year as Roy Batty.

R.I.P. Barrington Pheloung, aged 65.Australian-born composer Barrington Pheloung died yesterday in Australia aged 65. Pheloung was best known for his dark, hypnotic music for Inspector Morse, for which he was nominated for Best Original Television Music at the 1992 British Academy Television Awards. He also composed the themes for the sequel Lewis, and the prequel Endeavour. Within the Inspector Morse theme, Pheloung employed a Morse code motif for the letters that spell the name M.O.R.S.E. In occasional episodes, his music would even reveal the name of the killer in Morse code, or sometimes the name of another character (as a red herring). His film work includes Hilary and Jackie, based on the life of the great cellist Jacqueline du Pré. More recently, he worked on the music for 1983, the concluding episode of the Channel 4 drama Red Riding. OBIT

I remember sneaking in to see Easy Rider when it was released in the UK, I was 15. He did a lot of decent stuff, but Easy Rider is the thing that means most to me. It was a part of my youth, and it still ranks as one of the best film soundtrack albums out there. It's absolutely jam-packed with classic songs.
This sort of seems appropriate, and always brings a lump to my throat.
