What a tremendous legacy he leaves though ...
A massive discography of ground-breaking performances such as the aforementioned Four Seasons and he was working right up to the end! How wonderful to be able to continue doing what you love for so long. I saw him at the Proms just two years ago - the energy and zest he brought to a very long performance was just remarkable.

I'm in China at the moment so have got this ahead of you guys who are no doubt asleep, so some very sad news to awaken too. This had been a horrible year for losing some of the greatest musicians, songwriters and visionaries. I was lucky enough to see Leonard twice and hoped to again. We have some legacy of material to enjoy though RIP Leonard and thank you.

I think he was a wonderful, charismatic singer and a rather interesting person, too. I'm going to be playing some of his songs later tonight.

Been playing him all day so far, deeply shocked but also deeply grateful for the music he has gifted to the world.
I'm as sad now as when David Bowie left us.

Although Bowie's was a very significant death too, I play much more Cohen than Bowie. I'm really shocked as he seemed to be performing in his usual manner until the end. Gorgeous backing singers always in tow

Bad news. Laughing Len was one of the first voices in music for me - played around the house since my elder sister got a copy of his first album. He was a one off & his loss will leave a big gap in the musical world.

So sad to hear about Leonard Cohen, I've only really got into his music in the more recent times and it's great so a really sad loss.

Copied from another thread: Really sad to hear of the passing of Robert Vaughn (83). Used to think he was the coolest bloke on telly when I was a young 'un watching him in the classic Man From U.N.C.L.E..

This week, we also lost Al Caiola, a session guitarist who played on some of the absolute classics. There's a list here.Personally, I love his version of 'Apache'

More sad news, bass player Victor Bailey has passed away. Amongst other gigs and a solo career he was the bass player for Weather Report during their final years from 1982 to 1986. He also taught for a time at the at Berklee College of Music.

Mose Allison died yesterday. If you don't know who he was, then look at the blues and think about who the truly influential white musicians were in the early 1960s. There weren't many. Now look at the musicians that credited Mose Allison as an influence and those that recorded his songs:
The Rolling Stones, the Yardbirds, John Mayall, J. J. Cale, the Who, the Clash, Leon Russell, Van Morrison, Elvis Costello, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Waits, the Pixies.......
RIP Mose.

Mose was a jazzer too, and I think I'm going to adopt this as my theme music in a couple of years time.
As you can probably tell he had a great sense of humour.
R.I.P. Mose.
