I would happily give that a try but can't see it on Amazon or Netflix right now.

In The Earth I'm floored by this film. Though I've rwad exclusively bad reviews for it so the consensus seems that it's no good. During a massive pandemic, two researchers embark into the woods for studies of the fertile soil there. They stumble into some bad luck early and encounter a man living the woods and things go from bad to worse at that point. Their hallucinogenic experience becomes bizarre. But later in the film the visual and auditory experience for the audience is staggering. I've never seen anything like this on film. I saw it on a Saturday and it never left my mind. I downloaded the song "Hammer Of The Witches" from the films soundtrack and listened to it in repeat. I returned to the theater the following night. At point one of the researchers wears a hazmat suit to try to pass through a mist and her colleagues have a rope tied around around her in case she gets into trouble. When they drag her out she is crying so hysterically and babbling, though I think i know what what was trying to say. But I've never seen an actor or actress reach that point. That was baffling to see her crying that hard. This film is a near zero in the ratings but to me it's one of the most atmospheric and unique experiences I've ever had at the theater and the sounds in the film are entirely new to me. I mentioned that one a few weeks ago, before it was released. It's a Ben Wheatley film, and I'm a hige fan of his work, so I'm glad to hear it's living up to expectations.

That's one to watch for me. Where can I see it, though? Hmmm. I'm not sure whats available in theaters over there but it's still in theaters here in the states. Though there is a website that has all of the new films, some in great quality, some in less than great but im not sure if it's ok to mention the site here? Slinger Really? Damn I didn't see your mention of it I'll look for it. I'm new to Ben Wheatley but after this, I'll be seeing all of his work. And the moment I stepped out of the theater I found the soundtrack to the film on Spotify and have been slowing discovering all of it. BTW guys it's very possible that you'll be disappointed. If you read the reviews you'll see what I mean. But I think one thing they have wrong is looking for horror. It's marketed that way. And it has elements of that. But just go for the sound. It's possible that I'm easily swayed if a film has at least one element done so right. It left enough of an impression on me to leave an Imdb user review which I haven't done in many years.

Agreed^. Body Of Lies Ive never seen or heard much praise for this film anywhere but it's possibly my favorite DiCaprio role. He's electric imo in so many films, and in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood he is hilarious, I like him a lot in that one. Body Of Lies is a bit of a sleeper hit imo. It seems to me that so many other actors could have played this role (except one gut wrenching scene near the end, I can't see another actor having that intensity) but im glad it was DiCaprio. It was nice to see him as a character more down to earth than the other roles I've seen him in. Like 'The Counselor' this is a Ridley Scott picture that as far I've seen has flown quite under the radar though I think it deserves more credit. Watched Body of Lies - it's a solid enough film and DiCaprio was indeed excellent, just a shame about Russell Crowe who I found really implausible and lightweight in this film. Really two-dimensional. I thought Mark Strong as Hani gave a much more persuasive performance. I still haven't quite worked out how he engineered the plot ending!

Agreed man, on Russel Crowe. But tbh thats one thing I love about this film. You get to see DiCaprio and Russel Crowe playing run of the mill nearly 2 dimensional characters.
On its own that would suck. But surround those characters with a good director and other shining performances like Mark Strong and Oscar Isaac in a Ridley Scott film with small flickers of brilliance (as opposed to the supernova that DiCaprio and Russel Crowe can each be at times) from the 2 leads and some of the scenery, and with 2 scenes from DiCaprio that I could only see him pulling off with that kind of intensity and imo it's an underestimated banger.

I have to stop watching political thrillers set in Middle East. That was the third one I've seen recently but am still very keen to see Kathryn Bigelow's Zero Dark Thirty - an excellent director who did such a great job on The Hurt Locker, another one in the same genre!

Oxygen/Oxygene on Netflix. A rather well constructed French SF film with a remarkable performance by Melanie Laurent. Liz wakes up in a cyrogenic support unit. She has hardly any memories, doesn't know why she is there and her oxygen is running out. The gradual unfolding of the storyline is well done, all the way to the end. It's always difficult for a single actor to hold up an entire film, but she, together with flashbacks and voices, carries it off very well.
It doesn't rate very well on IMDB but that would be down to the usual suspects with poor attention span (and no explosions). Take it as a recommendation and give it a try.

Alien.
Still jaw droppingly good in every way - this film will never grow old. At last my son agreed to watch it with us last night. Every time I see it I find something new to appreciate; the detail in the sets is just incredible. The plain vanilla HD version on Amazon is super clean and crisp looking. I pumped up the audio so we could enjoy the stellar work of the sound designers.

We avoid horror films. Don't like 99% of them Should we give this a go ? Very sorry for late response, Mike. Hmm. I wish it was still in theaters. If so, and I'll be careful here, I'd say yes go see it, on the off chance you can connect with it like I did. It seems most people I've encountered on imdb, youtube comments, Reddit, don't care for the film. I'd hate to see you lose time/money. But I liked it enough to recommend it to you anyway because if you do click with it at some point along it's duration you may find yourself going over in your mind the sensory experience that this film provides. I really don't like that films like this and 'Hereditary' have to be shat upon by their own promotional team with asenine claims of "the best horror since..." when it's just a unique experience at the theater.

No I didn't thanks for reminding me. The weekend that we talked about it I couldn't find it free, in fact I don't even recall it being available for streaming, iirc.
So I tried to find it used.
I see now it's $3 on Amazon Prime Video. Which I could afford in 2 weeks lol.
I'll take screenshot now of it to remind myself. Thanks for reminder.

I won't pay for content on Amazon. Thin end of the wedge
Have you noticed that films and series are free then paid for and vice versa ?
Would like to watch less TV, as I keep saying. Must try to persuade the boss
