I've now seen John Wick 3 and really enjoyed it.
Mindless perhaps, but in a good way - the action choreography, locations, art direction and lighting are all first rate.
Keanu's fitness is very impressive indeed.
Bring on part 4 LOL.

ARQ Pretty good low budget Netflix SF thriller in the time-loop genre. It builds rather well to a climax. Tbh the stuff I'm finding on Netflix is really high quality. Unknown name actors (for me) with seemingly B-Movie premises but executed incredibly well. Things on Netflix like Kill Command, Battle Drone, Arq, The Ritual and a slew of others have quite a bit of charm and extremely high production values.

Watership Down? Who Framed Roger Rabbit? That lady in the red dress is a bit hot to trot I don't seem to recall if she's human or just an illustration. Well, this is awkward.

I really enjoyed Green Zone on Netflix. A very taut, fast paced thriller set in the chaos of post invasion Iraq. From the same team that made The Bourne Supremacy, it builds a story around the false WMD pretext for invasion.

"Hillbilly Elegy". Fabulous ensemble acting and a surprisingly engaging (true) story.

Been watching a box set of the old Sherlock Holmes films starring Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce. I absolutely love them - even the lesser ones are good fun and the best are legends.

Jeremy Brett is "my" Holmes. The Rathbone films were great (despite the bumbling, too-often-played-for-laughs, Watson) but when I close my eyes I see Brett in the role. He had the perfect amount of insanity to keep one off-balance for a lot of the time he was on screen.

I don't actually remember any of those versions Paul but I'm sure I watched a few back in the day.
I'm rather fond of Nigel Bruce's Watson but appreciate why others wouldn't be.

Jeremy Brett played Holmes in the ITV series. There are only a couple of episodes left on the ITV hub, and they vanish tonight, and tomorrow, and Amazon is still charging to watch them. If you've got a spare hour, and you're a Holmes fan, treat yourself before tomorrow night. www.itv.com/hub/sherlock-holmes/1a1125

I watched two episodes of the Jeremy Brett 'Sherlock' but I don't think I'd watch any more - I was surprised to see they were made in the '90s as they seemed curiously dated to me. Obviously decent actors in the lead parts but I just wasn't hooked - it felt very much like the made for TV drama it was whereas the earlier Basil Rathbone films have that extra cinematic quality.

Argo, with Ben Affleck as director / actor is a really beautifully crafted and tense political thriller set against the backdrop of the Iranian hostage crisis. Needless to say the film is banned in Iran. Highly recommended.

In The Earth
I'm floored by this film. Though I've read exclusively bad reviews for it so the consensus seems that it's no good.
During a massive pandemic, two researchers embark into the woods for studies of the fertile soil there. They stumble into some bad luck early and encounter a man living in the woods and things go from bad to worse at that point. Their hallucinogenic experience becomes bizarre.
But later in the film the visual and auditory experience for the audience is staggering. I've never seen anything like this on film. I saw it on a Saturday and it never left my mind. I downloaded the song "Hammer Of The Witches" from the film's soundtrack and listened to it on repeat. I returned to the theater the following night.
At one point one of the researchers wears a hazmat suit to try to pass through a mist and her colleagues have a rope tied around her in case she gets into trouble. When they drag her out she is crying so hysterically and babbling, though I think i know what she was trying to say. But I've never seen an actor or actress reach that point. That was baffling to see her crying that hard.
This film is a near zero in the ratings but to me it's one of the most atmospheric and unique experiences I've ever had at the theater and the sounds in the film are entirely new to me.
