Jarhead. Sam Mendes doing what he does best - great performances and some truly memorable imagery. "We've all been taught that thou shalt not kill, but hear this - fck that shit." Jake Gyllenhaal is excellent. It's a shame he's now in dreck like Roadhouse. Anthony Swofford's book, which the film is based upon, is superb, Jules.

Vesper. Visually quite stunning creation with a wildly imaginative storyline. A young girl carries the story in a post-apocalyptic world where just surviving isn't easy. It's hard to believe this was a low budget production, so sumptuous are the visuals. There is little hard SF but plenty of organic life. For world-building alone, it gets 10/10 but that doesn't even include the superb acting from the small cast. How some of the scenes were done is left to the imagination.
Just watch it.
