Is there anyone who hasn't seen the excellent Zero Dark Thirty and would like to see it on Blu-ray?
Let me know and I'll send you my spare copy.
Freepost is for UK film fans only though ...
That's a nice offer Jules. I found it on Netflix last night and watched it. Yup. really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendation chaps

Glad you enjoyed it Brian.
It's surprising how more quality you get from a Blu-ray which doesn't have the compression you get from streaming - more rez and a cleaner image. A decent upgrade ... LOL.

I won't pay for content on Amazon. Thin end of the wedge Have you noticed that films and series are free then paid for and vice versa ? Would like to watch less TV, as I keep saying. Must try to persuade the boss I do find myself paying sometimes for a film though that seems to be from a lack of control over the sudden need to see a film on that very day. It's a strange urge and feeling where it seems to me nothing else will do on that day. It's happened a handful of times maybe. For example I did it with 'The Dead Don't Die'. It was almost like a comfort food for me. I don't even think the film is so stellar but it has a few elements (soothing soundtrack, slow pace, the dialogue sounds almost like background conversation at times) that just really could use on that day. Yes, I could swear sometimes a film is free and then I'll check back months later and there's a price attached to it, or vice versa.

Glad I prefer music to watching TV and films Currently (half) watching Solos, new on Prime. Waste of time IMO as is so much we watch

Yes I'll be dead honest that I don't understand the allure of TV Series. Though I'm ignorant because I haven't seen many and I hope to be proven wrong...but I'm under the impression that many hours could be wasted/lost if a show turns out to have low quality in writing and execution after a few episodes or seasons.
At least with a movie if after an hour into it you're ready to give up on it, we'll then you've only lost a minimal amount of time.
Is this an accurate view of investing so much time into dramas/series? I've only actually followed through on Season 1 of True Detective (though need to finish 3rd season as it's quite good), 1st season of The Detectorists, and possibly all of The West Wing.

Used to watch TV series and films until the bitter end but had so many where I asked myself why I bothered
Easier now trying to keep the boss fed with things to watch. It is a conveyor belt We now have an agreement to terminate. Some don't make it past 10 minutes. Don't need to know what happens. Life's too short.
The Detectorists is a particular type of series where very little happens but you want to know and watch all of it. The West wing is stellar. I can watch some very good films and series again as they were so good rather than watch a poor current one.

I will can a series after 10-15 mins of the pilot episode if I don't like it. They self filter and I save my time for series that are worthwhile. There is more space for characters and storyline to develop, which is why I like a series when it is worthwhile.
Examples: I couldn't get enough of Dark, Normal People, Game of Thrones and The Americans.
I dismissed (to me) time wasting crap like Breaking Bad, The Crown and In The Line of Duty. Life is too short.

A Quiet Place part II
Holy crap. Well done. I'd always thought the first one was a respectable film though never gave it a second viewing. After this both films will belong in my DVD collection.
This was an example of an OK premise executed very well. Each character's terror of and hatred for these creatures is palpable. You can see what these maniacs have taken from all of these characters on the characters faces.

Yes I enjoyed the first one without thinking it was a classic, but will definitely check out Pt II.

In case you didn't know The Girl with the dragon tattoo has two more films following The Girl Who Played with Fire (2009) (just started watching, so far some clever bits and as gruesome as the original) The Girl Who Kicked the Hornets' Nest (2009) on Prime These are the Swedish versions. English language : The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011) The Girl in the Spider’s Web (2018) Both of the English language movies are part of the same series, however, these films are only loosely connected. The Girl in the Spider’s Web is effectively a soft reboot/loose continuation of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, with a new cast. Borrowed from itsastampede.com/2020/08/01/how-many-girl-with-the-dragon-tattoo-movies-are-there/

The Swedish versions are much better and properly follow the Stig Larsson novels.

The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It
Not bad. The reviews aren't good claiming without a haunted house and without director James Wan that The Conjuring charm is gone.
I disagree. The man possessed here is tethered to a haunted place everywhere he goes and for me it actually worked. Also Vera Farmiga was excellent here and James Wan wrote the story and co-produced the film.
Imo if you like this franchise this is in fact a worthy addition.

Awake - a Netflix film. Pretty good and way better than its poor IMDB score would suggest. I liked it because of the acting: Gina Rodriguez gets the line between entertainment and realism just right and is convincing. Ariana Greenblatt is also impressive as the young girl. This is a survival film with an intriguing premise: something happens and no-one can sleep. What would happen? Nothing good, it seems (I'm reminded of the excellent book Why We Sleep by Matthew Walker).

The Whistleblower
Powerful, uncomfortable.
Based on the experiences of Kathryn Bolkovac, an American police officer who in 1999 was assigned to serve as a peacekeeper with the United Nations in post-war Bosnia.
on Prime
Makes me wonder about the UN a lot

The Tomorrow War (on Prime) had an interesting premise and I thought it would be worth a watch. Unfortunately, I was wrong. It is as bad as Edge of Tomorrow is good.
Crass, unsubtle, cartoon story with cartoon characters. Even the humour is forced whereas Edge of Tomorrow has some genuine laugh out loud moments. Also, the latter features Emily Blunt.
Nothing more to say - don't waste your time. 5/10 where Edge of Tomorrow deserves 9/10.
