Ive been on a kick of these WW2 meets the supernatural b-movie's lately. Dead Snow 1 and 2 are remarkable if you can tolerate their premise. Hilarious too.
I saw one that surprised me called Soldiers Of The Damned about a group of SS lost in the woods encountering Russians and evil forces as well.
There's a Danish actor named Lucas Hansen in this playing an absolutely menacing troublemaker SS officer. Among other things his performance was a stand out for me with his bizarre evil grin that he used so well that could actually challenge the one August Diehl had in his amazing scenes in Inglourious Basterds.

Robert, have I already mentioned The Keep to you? It's WW2 meets a supernatural demon combined with Tangerine Dream soundtrack and Michael Mann directing.
Do watch it if you can find it, a minor gem.

Holy crap No. I haven't heard of it. Will check thanks. A gem would be great. I must say in some of these films and they're certainly not for everybody I've encountered some European actors that are just mind-blowing including in the Dead Snow films. The guy on the couch telling them the history of that town is so good. www.imdb.com/video/imdb/vi4236378905/

I'd forgotten about The Keep - great film, full of atmosphere. Not surprising given the director.

It's way weirder than the even the trailer suggests. Michael Mann has never made a bad film.
EDIT: you can rent it on YouTube.

The Midnight Sky is a nice slow well-written SF film on Netflix starring and directed by George Clooney. Some of the events are cliched but it does leave a nice big question in the mind for future thinking: could a man and a woman (who is pregnant and therefore fertile) build up humanity again? It would be touch and go but I guess it may be possible even in the face of in-breeding and all the issues it could create.

I still remember seeing Cats the show as my girlfriend at the time wanted to see it. It remains by a long margin quite the worst experience I've ever had, the feeling of wanting to leave overcoming me well before the half-way mark. A single sick bag would never have been adequate.
Happy for you, Dave, but it won't be darkening my screen!

Dunkirk Was on Freeview and now on iPlayer www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m000qqtl/dunkirkExcellent. Even knowing what went on we were rivetted Highly recommended Side issue partly covered in the film How can such a huge disaster have been heralded as a huge victory ? Cup half full or half empty perhaps or a fabulous saver of our guys, around 10 times what they aimed to rescue Reading details it seems to have been a collection of reasons. Panzers about 60% depleted by fighting, German supply lines too extended, consequent lack of fuel and ammo, expectation there would be a counter from the allies, German army run on anarchy, the small boats. Probably others

Agreed Mike, it's a really well made film.
I was lucky enough to see it as an IMAX presentation at the cinema. Looked absolutely epic.
To me it's all about the triumph of spirit to get as many out as possible and the role the small boats played.

Yes, I liked it too and couldn't understand some of the negative views.

I must admit, I'm looking forward to watching that myself, for much the same reason that you did. What I'm expecting, from the reviews, is the sort of film I used to watch after smoking something interesting.

Twas pretty good on the 50" plasma with sound provided by TAD Plasma? Were you watching the film on Betamax as well Mike?? Joking aside and ignoring picture quality comparisons, I know you like to reduce your carbon footprint - you could seriously reduce your energy bills with a new TV; a 50" plasma is a monster energy guzzler. For example a new 55" LG OLED typically consumes around 100W a day. The 50" plasma can consume anywhere between 2-5 times as much depending on model. Have a look at these if you are interested. www.buildwithrise.com/stories/how-much-can-new-tv-save-youwww.enerank.com/tv-power-consumption-energy-efficiency-50-inches.php

It spends a lot of time off
