SPOILERS
Haha yes Mike that one got pretty hot and heavy... Was there a scene involving an animal? I can't remember if it was this or another comedy movie. I think one of the characters needs to hide inside of an elephants ass maybe?

You are right !
Sacha Baron Cohen has a knack for finding things well beyond the pale
So many laugh out loud moments
Not one to share with anyone unless you know them very well and not parents or children

So Long, My Son - 2019
This is an astonishingly good film by Wang Xiaoshuai and arguably up there amongst the best from the last 12 months like Parasite and Portrait of a Lady on Fire. Not on the normal platforms at the moment (I saw it on MUBI) and unlikely to have wide appeal, but for those who enjoy good foreign language films, it's one to look out for. It's long at 185m, but that passed quickly as I became totally engaged in the unfolding story, which focuses on the personal impact of China's one child policy, over a timeline of China's social and economic reform. I found it an exceptional work and the best Chinese film I've seen to date. 5/5

I've seen it and really liked it, definitely worth seeing just for the content.
For my own personal tastes I would have preferred it more in B&W, but overall it's an impressive work. A good film to watch in conjunction with 1917

Glad to hear this Tim, thanks.
Ive mentioned 200 times here before that I'm a WW1 geek depending almost exclusively on my growing book collection at home and the occasional podcast, mostly Dan Carlin's Hardcore History podcast episode series called 'Blueprint For Armageddon'. On Spotify.
I have not watched this yet, not sure why, and it's at my fingertips. I think its because it means so much to me that I'd rather not sit there watching on my phone like everything else. Maybe when I get a TV to give it a proper viewing on a large screen.

Ah yes, it's impact will not be the same on a phone! If you have an interest in WWI then definitely try to see it on a large screen. The soundtrack and dubbed in commentary are particularly good, really brings the footage to life.
Before I got my projector there were a lot of films I didn't watch until I could do them justice. I don't have a TV either, not had one for years, but I do have a reasonable projector and watch films pretty much exclusively now, as TV drama's rarely float my boat. Part of the reason I got rid of the TV really, didn't enjoy the content or the experience.

I watched Kajaki on Netflix. Highly recommended but gruelling viewing as you might expect from this film set in Afghanistan and based on a real events. The tension is absolutely unbearable at times as you will these guys to survive. Outstanding performances from the ensemble.

Has anyone here seen that film 'The Counselor' starring Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt?
I've seen it once about 5 or 6 years ago and I don't recall a lot of it.
I do remember Cameron Diaz's character being absolutely repulsive to me.
There were a few cool scenes in the movie but what I remember the most is Michael Fassbender in the last scene and how he reacts to what he sees actually made me feel what it would feel like if you caused someone you love to get hurt like that.
Did anybody see that film and have any thoughts on it?

Has anyone here seen that film The Counselor' starring Michael Fassbender and' Brad Pitt? I have as I'm a fan of Penélope Cruz ( Volver is a great film if you haven't seen it) and Javier Bardem, but to be honest I can't remember it that well, as I wasn't impressed. A muddled confusing and weak script from memory, that wasn't saved by the array of talent on show. I can barely remember the plot, let alone the ending - another Ridley Scott car crash. He's made some stunning movies, but there are some bombs out there too. I'm wondering if it might be worth a revisit though, as it was a long time ago and you have me intrigued? I can however recommend Pain and Glory with the above two actors

Interesting, Tim, I've seen the box cover for Volver a million times. Good to know its highly recommended. Will look up Pain and Glory.
I don't remember caring for The Counselor much either, and thought that it was a bit all over the road, i don't seem to recall a plot, it had little if any atmosphere and just didn't seem to flow in a way that was captivating. Though I'll go ahead and give it another try.
But that scene at the end is gut wrenching. My stomach was in my throat from that performance by Fassbender at the end.
I literally couldn't live with myself if I'd caused that.

Did anybody see that film and have any thoughts on it? Yes, I remember mentioning it some while back. Absolutely superbly built slow car-crash as Fassbender gets in way too deep with the Mexican cartels, thinking he could make good money from drug trading. Brad Pitt warns him, Diaz plays an absolute bitch (one of her best performances ever) and Cruz is the innocent party being dragged down with Fassbender. Unbelievably unnerving scenes and an ending that, as you say, is truly gut wrenching. It's a Ridley Scott, what would you expect? Stunning film, a minor masterpiece.

The film leaves me with the thought of how stupid can you be when you decide that you'd like to try to outsmart a huge group of really bad people. Nevermind what they'll do to you, worry about your loved ones.

This fate of the character played by Brad Pitt, was that caused by Fassbender's character as well?
It's actually a bit fascinating to me that a movie that I saw 6 years ago and haven't thought of since suddenly today has just popped into my head and I feel the sickening feeling from certain scenes, certain pieces of dialogue scattered throughout, and just the look and feel of certain characters.

Very interesting.
I haven't seen the movie in ages and only did see it once and today I could actually remember the look on Brad Pitt's face at the end.

I was really looking forward to the forthcoming Star Trek film "Picard" having seen trailers shown on Facebook - but last night discovered that it's not a film at all but a web televison series. So, how do I get to see it if I don't subscribe to the appropriate service? The above from Nov last year. Having just bought a CD set on Amazon I inadvertently signed up for a free Prime trial. Well, actually I'm pretty damn sure I didn't sign up and deliberately did not do so - but they signed me up anyway. Cancelled immediately. But, the free sub seems to want to play itself out, and there was Picard Season 1 being advertised as available. So I spent the last couple of afternoons binge viewing it. Quite enjoyed it. Some lump in throat moments with the portrayal of old characters. Some a bit OTT. And some good new characters. I liked the Romulan brother and sister act. Strongly played by both actors. But gosh, I wish I had missed the last "episode" - very weak indeed at times, imo, embarassingly so. 7/10 overall, 3/10 for the finale. Has there been or will there be a Season 2?

Zombies Of The Stratosphere.
Leanord Nimoy's first alien role, 1952.
Remarkable.
Quite remarkable story line.
And remarkably, old rocket technology.
I think you'll like it, Jules.
