I've just finished watching Jordan Peele's "Get Out," and it was rather good. I won't say too much, in case I give anything away, but I will say it's worth watching, and it is, at heart a horror film. It's also probably more "relevant" now than when it was made, in 2017. You might recognise the lead actor, Daniel Kaluuya; he's yet another Brit playing an American. Jordan Peele won the Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Get Out. I've also got Peele's followup film to watch, "US," and I'm really looking forward to it. Mark Kermode gave Get Out 4/5 stars, and awarded the same score to US. Peele also had a hand in Spike Lee's "BlacKkKlansman" which I keep meaning to watch. All three of those films you mentioned above are great Slinger, in fact I must watch US again, as I've only seen it the once, the others twice.
Enjoy

Just watched 2 remakes but am not sure that they were better than the originals.
Child's Play - It's ok imo, not great and the kid looks way too old for this type of part the kid is practically a teenager it's hard to believe him playing with a doll meant for a 6 year old. Aubrey Plaza, wow. I always saw her in Parks & Recreation back in the day, an old favorite show of mine, but never paid much attention to her character who seemed like 24/7 gloom/doom.
But here as the mom in Child's Play she had my attention. Showing a bit more range, the occasional smile and some unique way about her she is alluring as anything. What a stunner imo Aubrey Plaza has become.
The Thing - Wow, excellent, this one actually could be better than the original, for me it isn't, there's just something about that 1982 feel of the original that wins for me, and Kurt Russel and crew just looked more worried/scared imo.
But, I think this remake has my new favorite scene between both films, that scene on the helicopter, in this remake, has just given me a new appreciation for this monster that they are dealing with.

I saw the remake of The Thing and was disappointed. It has little of the build-up of fear with no escape that the Carpenter version so skillfully creates, not to mention the truly outstanding ensemble acting.

The "original" of The Thing was actually made in 1951, you're talking about the remake of the remake, guys. James Arness - Gunsmoke's Marshall Matt Dillon - donned the rubber suit in the original original.

Haha oh wow remake of the remake yes. Indeed.
I do agree the first remake is quite a bit better there is some atmosphere to it and a real feeling of dread and great interplay between the cast.
The newest remake had nice cgi but much less of a scary tone to the film.

One of those cases where the remake was better. But not the remake of the remake.

My son was on at me for ages to watch "It" with him, so last night I took the plunge with rather low expectations. What a surprise - it is a really well crafted horror film. Very assured direction, some lovely lighting and cinematography - it looks great on Netflix. Excellent audio and music. But the best thing about it is the performance of the ensemble of kids doing battle with their worst fears - just superb, a really talented bunch who deserve to do well.

I've just bought the second part of "IT" on Blu-ray, Jules. Have you seen the made-for-tv miniseries? It's worth seeking out if you haven't; Tim Curry makes a good Pennywise.

Let me know how you get on with pt 2!
Not seen the series but I can imagine that Tim Curry is great in that role, he does characters so well.

I would highly recommend the 1989 made for tv mini-series it plays like a movie and I have it on DVD, it's excellent. There is real chemistry Between the the cast, both young and old casts and the clown is frightening and Derrybfeels kike a real place in this version.

I've just had a demonically possessed frenzy of adding copious contemporary horror films to my Netflix and Amazon watchlists ... I sleep so badly anyway, can it get much worse??

If you get a chance man try 'Life'. A really good little sleeper hit sci-fi horror with a good ensemble cast in space dealing with one mean little alien that keeps growing.

That Calvin is a nasty little fecker isn't he - just doesn't know when to call it a day! The ending got me good.

The ending is a real moment of utter doom. No returning from it.
