Steven Spielberg's "Ready Player One" arrived today, on 3D Blu-ray. I'll have to set an evening aside for it as the film itself is two-hours-and-twenty-minutes long and there's over an hour-and-a-half of extras. My own little "extra" was buying it used, from musicMagpie, at a knock-down price and when it arrived finding out I'd actually purchased the "collector's" Steel Book edition that sells for almost fifty quid on Amazon. I've waited ages to get my hands on this Blu-ray. Directed by Spielberg, Simon Pegg and Mark Rylance are in it, there's a decent-looking soundtrack (the original music is by Alan Silvestri) and it looks to be the sort of film that 3D and 5.1 was made for. I'm going to be disappointed, aren't I?

Arrival is on C4 this Sunday night. It's what I'd describe as a "difficult" film, in so much as it demands your full attention at all times. It's worth the effort though. Cerebral Sci Fi with not a ray-gun in sight.

The short story "Stories of Your Life" by Ted Chiang is excellent. Arrival is a great film, directed by Denis Villeneuve (for me, the new Ridley Scott).

Ok - odd one here - the thread title is remarkable films and this is one.
It's a short film called Hanging with Frank and follows an ex death row prison guard who returns to Barlinnie Jails execution chamber shortly before its destruction.
It's B&W,it's only about 15 minutes long but - for a number of reasons it is remarkable.
Might not be for everyone but it's up to you if you choose to watch it.

It's a short film called Hanging with Frank Thanks, Chris. I knew this was going to be a tough watch for me. It serves to reaffirm my conviction that all capital punishment is wrong, no matter what the reason. I know others will disagree with me so I'll just leave it there.

It's a short film called Hanging with Frank and follows an ex death row prison guard who returns to Barlinnie Jails execution chamber shortly before its destruction... Enthralling, and the narrator, with his "matter of fact" delivery always kept it above the level of a horror show. It could have been a nasty little film, but it was far from that. Thanks for posting it, Chris. Apropos of nothing very much, my late wife lived near to the Bar-L when she was very young, and I remember her telling me how she once, walking past it with her father, asked "can you dreep that wall Daddy?" "Of course I can," says Duncan, who was 5' 4" and Welsh, and didn't have a clue what she was talking about.

I watched John Wick 2 last night. Highly entertaining. The action choreography is unbelievably good as is the uber stylish production design. The finale is 'inspired' by The Man With the Golden Gun and Enter the Dragon.

We went to see Rocketman, the film about Elton John at the weekend and we liked it. He clearly had quite a challenging upbringing and start to fame.
Whilst the film was good in its own right, we found ourselves comparing it to Bohemian Rhapsody, the film about Queen, wanting more and didn't think it was quite as enjoyable.
I would recommend both, but I would probably watch Rocketman first if you can.
