I watched Kingsman last night. Expected very little but actually found it rather entertaining in a very silly laddish kind of way. It has Sofia Boutella in it. What's not to like?

I watched Kingsman last night. Expected very little but actually found it rather entertaining in a very silly laddish kind of way. Perfect casting of Taron Egerton, Colin Firth and Samuel L. I didn't spot Mark Hamill in the film so that was a bit of surprise ... The sequel The Golden Circle is a fun romp and kicks into high-gear right away.

Two remarkable films I have had the misfortune to see (a small part of) over the last week. 'Romancing the Stone' and 'The Jewel of the Nile' - the most inexorable shite I think I have ever seen even for 1980s standards. The story, the script, the soundtrack, the agonizing racial stereotypes, all have to be seen to be believed. To think this might have passed for entertainment 30 years ago - I would prefer to be locked in a padded room to watch an evening of Noel's House Party. There are films from the 1930's and 40's which are less dated than this bilge. I hope everybody concerned had a massive payday to deflect from the humiliating embarrassment of this detritus most sordid.

More a documentary then a film, but I found Free Solo a riveting watch. It’s about the first free solo climb of El Capitan- an incredible achievement. Having been a bit of a rock climber myself in my younger years, some of this I watched through my fingers, balls of steel does not even cover it. Some bits I could t even watch!

Watched Sicario last night.
What a gripping and gruelling film, superb ensemble cast and great direction from Denis Villeneuve.
Loooking forward to the sequel which although by a different director am told is very good.

What a gripping and gruelling film, superb ensemble cast and great direction from Denis Villeneuve. If you like Villeneuve, both Arrival and Blade Runner 2049 are outstanding. Next year he will release Dune, which is bound to become the gold standard for adaptations of this SF epic.

I'm really stretching the title of this thread to its limits, but...
The Happytime Murders - I have no idea how this was only a "15" but it is. There is copious cursing and there are several sex scenes. Most of this takes place with the bastard offspring of Jim/Brian Henson's muppets, and indeed it's Henson's puppet workshop that provided the puppets. Brian Henson also gets Director and production credits, as does the human star of the film, Melissa McCarthy. It was the debut release of "Henson Alternative," a banner of The Jim Henson Company that specializes in adult content.
I enjoyed it. It's not quite one of those "so-bad-it's-good" films, but it's definitely headed in that direction. Brian Henson says the humour is like the sort of stuff his dad, Jim, and Frank Oz, got up to when the cameras were turned off when they made The Muppets. Here's the trailer, and I'll leave you to decide for yourselves if it's your kind of thing. It's now one of my guilty pleasures, and I'll never be able to look at silly-string in the same way again...or cows.

The ending leaves you wanting to know much more. Talking of which, the superb soundtrack came from Jóhann Jóhannsson, an Icelandic composer who sadly passed away only last year. He worked so in many different genres, incredibly talented guy and scored the excellent TV series 'Trapped' that I've just finished watching the second series of. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/J%C3%B3hann_J%C3%B3hannsson

I was thinking the soundtrack was very well matched with the material, further increasing the discomfiting scenes.

I saw 'The Death of Stalin' yesterday. It's a farce directed and co-written by Armando Iannucci with fellow 'Thick of It' writer Ian Martin, among others. I haven't enjoyed a film as much as this for years, it was superb and extremely funny but not a little sobering. Highly recommended. Guaranteed to be good with Ianucci making it. Will make sure I see it Excellent film as I thought Iannucci does a fine job. Hilarious. Cynical and not so far of the truth Free on Amazon Prime ATM
