I liked the first one, it was fun ...
The other day I watched the first minute or two of the second one and got really irritated by how 'affected' and attention seeking she sounded, and switched it off. I will try again sometime.

We might give that a try this evening. Yesterday we started, "Wendell & Wise" after seeing a positive endorsement and knowing it was by the animator that did, "Nightmare Before Christmas". We lasted about 15 minutes: it is dire! I fear that Netflix seem to be losing their way with original content and are going for quantity over quality.

All Quiet On The Western Front (Netflix 2022 version)
Subtitled.
This is the movie 1917 should have been, I was pretty disappointed with 1917, just couldn't see what the fuss was all about. This is much better.

I'll give that a try, although I did enjoy 1917 as something a little different but still effective.

I saw 1917 on a huge IMAX screen which really did justice to the scale of the film.
Looking forward to the Netflix film.

This is much better. That's great news and I really had that same feeling "I hope this is the film 1917 should have been". I was underwhelmed by 1917 and thought it was a huge opportunity missed and I too have no idea what the fuss was about. Can't wait to see All Quiet On The Western Front.

That was my opinion on 1917 too. All Quiet really gets across the futility of The Great War and the waste of life. Ok I'm sure not everyone will like it but we did.

Memento good Inception not so good Tenet gets you caught up in it I've just watched Tenet. There's a line in it, "does your head hurt yet?" Yes. The problem I have with it is the hundreds of logical inconsistencies. Even despite that, it's entertaining and compelling in a bizarre way. Eilzabeth Debicki, as usual, raises its game somewhat. Ultimately, it's pure cobblers.

As expected it is...staggering what this film looks like. We've come a long way in sci-fi and CGI. If you're interested in seeing it then treat yourself to a theater viewing to do it justice.
I'd give it a 7 out of 10.
The visuals and sound are a 10. The story isn't terrible even if it has some "why would they do that?" moments but it's still fairly compelling and I found myself caring about the characters usually.
It's too long though. Just over 3 hours in duration. To it's credit though I'd say that 2 hours flies by. By 2 hours 20 minutes I was squirming a bit. And had to power through the last hour with a lot of phone use since no one was behind me.

All Quiet On The Western Front (Netflix)
Jesus Christ. I've actually had to stop it and take a break. And yet this is essentially the WW1 film that I've been waiting for. Now that It's here it I find it difficult to watch. I've read ENDLESSLY about this war. The trauma and especially the horror are on full display here.
"Lions led by donkeys". I try to wrap my mind around how the idiotic ego driven mistakes and schemes and stupidity and arrogance of those in power resulted in young men who had nothing to do with the conflicts that led up to the war and were put in these kinds of situations that are difficult to witness while the troublemakers who began the war sat in comfortable chalets miles away from the front from which they directed battles very often with days old information that did not reflect the new conditions on the ground.

Wow, yup. I'm 80 minutes into it. 70 minutes left to go.
I started Glass Onion earlier btw and actually enjoyed it but only got half way and will pick it up again tonight. Glass Onion was just stupid and silly enough in exactly the right proportions and Daniel Craig I thought was good as the cunning detective disguised as a hapless goof.
Cool looking film with annoying cast that somehow is made less annoying in this context. Though let's see how the rest of the film shapes up.

I saw a previous version of All Quiet On The Western Front many years ago Cemented in my thoughts about the pointlessness of war, particularly World War 1

Yup.
At times the objective was to run at a line of 50 guys shooting machine guns in the direction from where you are running.
The logic was if you send thousands and thousands of men into the hail of bullets then eventually a few will get through to conduct a trench raid.
Sacrifice 75% so that 25% can get through.

Much to think about with All Quiet...
Very much a visceral film about the human experience of the common soldier, it's certainly an excellent film but is painted in very broad strokes as it were ... I don't think it can be considered the definitive account of the conflict as there is so much more to tell. Maybe that film will never be made.

1917 gives another, also valid, perspective.

Yup. At times the objective was to run at a line of 50 guys shooting machine guns in the direction from where you are running. The logic was if you send thousands and thousands of men into the hail of bullets "storm of steel" then eventually a few will get through to conduct a trench raid. Sacrifice 75% so that 25% can get through. Wonderful strategy by the idiots in charge. Didn't quite get modern trench warfare If you haven't already watch Blackadder goes forth

Will do, Mike. Seven Samurai is heating up now to be ready for Wednesday.
Will complete All Quiet On The Western Front, 1917 today. Will begin Blackadder.
Maybe Dunkirk, definitely Chernobyl.
Will wait for the first winter storm to rewatch the AMC miniseries 'The Terror'.
Event Horizon will find it's way into that list some time this week.

Avatar The way of water, prodicable out come, 90 minutes to long, stunning computer graphical 'melding' with live action sequences. Maybe 7 out 10, take a game along with you. A case of trying way to hard to improve on the original. Has its moments
