I'd forgotten how scarily good Ralph Fiennes is in the film - very old school, reminded me of Get Carter era villains.

I came across this while looking something else up, and was reminded how good not only the film " In The Electric Mist," was but also the series of books it's based on: The "Dave Robicheaux" series, by James Lee Burke. The film might be one for you MikeMusic and the books might interest your Guvnor if she hasn't already read them. " In The Electric Mist," is an Amazon freebie, by the way, starring Tommy Lee Jones, John Goodman, Peter Sarsgaard, and Mary Steenburgen. Further down the cast the late, great Levon Helm gets a pivotal role, and blues guitarist Buddy Guy, appears as Sam "Hogman" Patin. The always-good Ned Beatty also turns up. The book's full title it's based on is "In the Electric Mist With Confederate Dead". That will make sense if you watch the film and/or read the book. A word of warning, don't look it up on Wikipedia, it gives far too much of the plot away.

Wrath Of Man - Jesus. If you're looking for a revenge flick. They got this one right.
I couldn't believe it was Guy Ritchie, so different in style from his other projects.

Top Gun: Maverick What can I say - it really is as good as people have said it is. For a mainstream Hollywood action film, this is about as good as it gets for me; I had an absolute blast. Something I never thought I would say, Tom Cruise's performance is remarkable - I didn't know he still had that charm and charisma he showed back in '86. Wasn't expecting it to be so emotional either and not just the really moving Val Kilmer scenes. I expect that's because naturally there are plenty of references to the original both in the plot and music which reminds me what a long time ago it was now, and that resonates for me.

Top Gun 1986 still rules but the sequel eas quite good. Definitely a fun movie.

The Black Phone
Quite impressive. Firstly, the look and feel of late 70's suburban US looks and feels right. Nice job by director Scott Derrickson there as well as how well the film moves.
It's the first time in many cinema visits where I was damned near gripping the arm rests (pee free arm rests I hope) as things unfolded.

The Gray Man. A decent action film with some terrific performances buried under stupid sequences and lack of continuity. What is it about fight scenes that are so mechanical and unrealistic these days? The baddie is ridiculously bad, as is the norm these days, too. Ryan Gosling and the gorgeous Ana de Armas (Joi in Blade Runner 2049) rescue the film from total mediocrity. It cost them how much to make?
6/10

Watched The Gray Man last evening and Martin nailed his review... not a bad way to pass a slow Saturday evening but I wouldn't buy a ticket to see it in a theater.

NOPE
I really liked it. I saw it twice this weekend. The first time I was skeptical and waiting for an eye roll that never came.
I've always really liked alien invasion films and my second time seeing it I was able to enjoy it more and focus on that part of it. So cool.
Chimpanzee attack looks real. Not tooo graphic luckily. The CGI for that scene was seamless. Wow.

Sunshine
The premise is utterly silly: send a fission bomb the 'size of Manhattan' to reignite a giant fusion reactor (The Sun) because it's dying.... I'd like to have that schoolboy physics explained to me! Putting the idea aside, what you have is a rather excellent ensemble performance directed by Danny Boyle with some spectacular and memorable imagery that will keep you entertained and on the edge of your seat to the end. For a low budget film, it delivers much more than you could reasonably expect. Despite the predictable ending, the way that the story unfolds is intriguing. Along the way, they find the original ship that failed in its task and, by diverting their course, almost their undoing too.
I found myself enjoying this film far more than I had expected. 7/10. I've just rewatched this. It's a well-made SF film and really quite compelling, premise aside. Good cast, too.

I've been hearing only good things about that one for many years. Time to check it out.
Not sure if the Fellows like that old Arnold Schwarzenegger film 'Predator' from 1987. My favorite movie of all time.
Well, tomorrow a prequel to it is being released called 'Prey'. Set 300 years ago in an area occupied by the Comanche tribes. I've been looking forward to this in a big way. Unfortunately no theater release. I'll be subscribing to Hulu just to see this film. Really excited about this.

I think the original Predator was as good as its successors were terrible.
I would approach the prequel with caution!

Agreed. I think the sequels were silly and the settings didn't help. I'm Really hoping that this being set 300 years ago brings a more serious tone again.
