Candyman (2021)
I like it quite a bit. Ive seen it twice in theater now. I dont remember the original well enough to compare it but will check soon. Very competent cast that I'm entirely unfamiliar with.
I love films in which I feel like I'm there in that location where the story takes place. There are incredible 10/10 films that I cherish though that dont have that element to them.
A few examples of ones that do imo are this film Candyman
In The Earth The Mothman Prophecies Michael Clayton Burn After Reading Secret Window Brooklyn's Finest Margin Call True Detective S1 Once Upon A Time In Hollywood The Hateful Eight Dead Snow Troll Hunter There Will Be Blood The Terror s1 The Conjuring 1 & 2 Deepwater Horizon Color Out Of Space Fire In The Sky Event Horizon Pandorum Insomnia The Dead Don't Die The Langoliers The Shining...and probably quite a few more.

Some good stuff I know in there. A lot I don't
The Langoliers was one of the worst films I've ever seen though !
Seven Samurai is one you have to watch. Yes 1954, black and white. Masterpiece

Will do Mike thanks. We'll I've been told my taste in music is asenine lol, more than once I believe. Some of that has leaked over into films. But I can't help it I do love a few movies that others despise. The Langoliers puts me in that "dead airport" with them.
Battle ship for example. Ye the first 30 minutes are goofy. But after the showdown with aliens begins its the most insane extended broad daylight look at what kinds of nasty weapons these aliens brought with them. Just amazing to see and hear. It's about 40 minutes of pure mayhem and it looks good.
OK on Seven Samurai original will try it.

Oh yes - The Langoliers. Dead airport that's being deconstructed around them, stale food etc?
It wasn't bad, just a bit slow.
Battleship was just utter dreck, though!

Martin, I saw your mention of Battleship years ago, I've been waiting all of this time for this day.
I saw it as a preview in the theater, nearly soiled myself and waited a year for it to come out. Really waited. And figures when it finally did come out I didn't have the money to go see it and watched it on a tiny 10" inch TV. But that showdown between the humans and aliens out at sea...it's the greatest CGI battle I've ever seen.
Yes the Langoliers was slow and dull, but it's based off of a Stephen King short story and I just liked it how slow it was with no flash and I felt like I was in that airport.. and Bronson Pinchot was good imo as Craig Toomey. So different than his character Balki on Perfect Strangers.

I've seen Candyman in theater 3 times now. I'm drawn in by the musical score. The film has a look and atmosphere to it that appeals to me.
The director is Nia Dacosta. I've never heard of her before this.
Both Nia DaCosta and Ben Wheatley are 2 directors I've only heard of this year and was quite captivated by what I saw from each.

Ben Wheatley's work, I love, and I'm looking forward to discovering Nia Dacosta from what I've heard, and read, about Candyman. I see she's been given the helm on the upcoming "The Marvels" which is set (no surprise) In the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Probably not the sort of movie to judge her on, but who knows, she may do something groundbreaking with it.

Hmmmm. Good to know she'll be at the helm of The Marvels, will be very interested to see what she'll do with it.
One thing I could add about Candyman is that it's not groundbreaking, may not win any awards, and there doesn't seem to be any message.
Its just a film that did well at that which it set out to do, because it has a bit of a feel to it.
For that reason I found it easy to suspend belief and accept a silly premise just to continue watching how it is presented. Sort of in the way I could enjoy a comic book growing up.

I think The Green Knight might become something of a minor classic of modern cinema but it's evidently not for everyone. It owes much more to Ingmar Bergman than Ridley Scott - those people expecting lots of slow motion sword and sorcery action will be most dissapointed. It requires a bit of thought and work at times, especially during some of the extremely dimly lit scenes but it's worth the investment for me - really excellent performances throughout with Dev Patel bringing a great sense of human frailty to Gawain. There is also some absolutely gorgeous photography which really shines when there is no CGI to integrate. Excellent soundtrack too.

Kate. An interesting take on the revenge thriller, well performed by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. Kate is an assassin who is poisoned with polonium 204 and only has 24 hours to live. She spends that time getting revenge on the person who ordered it. The set-pieces are manga graphic but well choreographed. The setting in Tokyo is spectacular and t here's lots of Japanese teen pop. She looks a little like a young Sigourney Weaver. An entertaining diversion.

Thanks Martin, I loved it!
So confidently made, some of the action was just crazy and the Blade Runner colours were superb.
I found a playlist of music from the film on Spoti ... LOL.

Joker.
Wow. A film everyone should see if only once. Not sure I could watch it again. Darker than pitch black.
Joaquin Phoenix just outstanding, worth seeing just to see him dance. The sound design very disturbing and great use of music. So skilfully shot in terms of textures and colours.

Resident Evil: Wecome To Raccoon City
Wow, bit of a deep cut here. May only be of interest for anyone really looking for this sort of thing. I liked this one. This was cool and it worked.
I've tried each of the previous Resident Evil movies and couldn't stand them, but always held out hope because i liked the premise.
I've never understood the inclusion of Milla Jovovich in the lead role. It never worked for me, I could never forget it's Milla, and it pulled the film into a focus on the badass heroine that just felt forced and a bit of an eyeroll and too predictable.
This one though, had a cool style and kept me watching with a fairly unknown ensemble cast that worked welll. This one rocked if it's the kind of thing you are looking for.
Edit: 2nd time at theater. Yes, this thing is COOL man. Finally a good one. I've watched what seems like 6 or so RE's none of them got it right. This one did. With a cast I liked quite a bit.
The director is Johannes Roberts who made both of the '47 Meters Down' films. Will be checking his other works.

Belfast - Gorgeous, directed by Kenneth Branagh. Wonderful film.
For long stretches it's just a look into the inner workings of one family but I was pulled right in and believed it.
