She was terrific in the "Underworld" series of films too. although they may be a tad too bloodthirsty for your tastes.

Thoroughly enjoyed "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" yesterday evening. I think it may well be Tarantino's best to date. Great acting from all taking part too.

Ye it's so fun. Really feels like they're in that time of the 60's. My sister was actually named after Sharon Tate.
Tarantino is a wizard.

If you have the Blu-Ray the making is a must watch , the detail Tarantino goes into to make this movie is incredible , recreating all the shops and their goods .

Jolt (Prime) Following on from Slinger mentioning this we watched it. Loved it. Mildly entertaining - as in barely lukewarm. If it wasn't for Beckinsale, it wouldn't be worth watching at all. As it is, it's rather silly comic-book stuff.

...it's rather silly comic-book stuff. Yup. Pure entertainment. I've got quite enough " reality" in my life at the moment, and I need to escape and be entertained. " Deep and meaningful," is not on my radar right now.

You may want to put off watching The Fountain for a bit, then!

You may want to put off watching The Fountain for a bit, then! I probably won't be rewatching Aronofsky's "Pi" anytime soon, either.

🤣🤣🤣
I found the film 'Pi' by hearing a quote from the film on a song called Speech Cobras.
Maximillian Cohen : Restate my assumptions: One, Mathematics is the language of nature. Two, Everything around us can be represented and understood through numbers. Three: If you graph the numbers of any system, patterns emerge. Therefore, there are patterns everywhere in nature.
If this is true, if patterns are everywhere in nature would that then mean that everything in creation is part of a fractal structure?

Seems like at the molecular level inside of an organic body it looks just like the formations out in space.
It seems like so much on the micro scale appears again on the macro scale.
I'm starting to think that nature reuses reocurring shapes and patterns because they function, nature leans towards the path of least resistance, that's why we see reoccurring themes, because those themes have proven themselves to work.
Sorry to derail here.

Out of Sight. Not seen this for a few years but it never disappoints, just a very cool film. J.Lo is just off the scale and an amazing performance from her. Great soundtrack too.

That was one of those films I meant to see when it came out, but never did. Thanks for reminding me of it, Jules.

I've just watched Blade Runner 2049 for the first time, so here's what I think.
Two initial problems. It took me quite a while to get really good picture quality via the TV's 'Expert Settings' - 4k UHD needs tweaking to get the best out of it and can look very flat otherwise.
Second, the audio I was getting was completely uncompressed which meant I was turning up the dialogue all the time and turning down the huge audio FX which threatened to destabilise our block foundations on several occasions. That was a pain, so the bottom line is I missed some dialogue and need to watch it again to see if I can change the audio settings on the X-Box I use for Blu-ray.
I don't think this was a film that really *had* to be made - I'd have been quite happy just having the original. Saying that, I respect the level of thought and detail that has gone into this film to avoid it becoming a lame sequel. The narrative is respectable enough and the performances very good. Not 100% sure on Ryan Gosling who was effective without being compelling in any way. I liked the pacing of the film and the way it slowly built momentum. Production Design was excellent, there were some really memorable sets. The lighting was often much flatter and more graphic than the original - I can understand why they did this so the film isn't just a visual homage to the original which has more contrast, depth and texture. Much of the sound design was superb but really needs to be experienced in the cinema for full impact. Hopefully I will be able to dial in a slightly more compressed sound that will work better at home. I will go again!

Do try The Jacket, it's worth tracking it down. Will check today. It's $1.99 on Prime video. Actually the lowest price I've seen yet for any rental there. Could anyone name a handful of movies released in last 20 years they'd pay extra to have a chance to see in the theater, with that great sound. The Lighthouse, War Of The Worlds, In The Earth, Kill Command, Deepwater Horizon, Behind Enemy Lines. I'd pay triple to see any of these and each of them imo is worth catching just for the sound alone. Deepwater Horizon sound design is impressive.
