... Even worse than Constellation which was off to a good start but collapsed under the weight of its tiresome and tedious timeshift. I'll be carefully avoiding anything new that comes along with the International Space Station as its basis. I must admit, I'm 4 episodes in with Constipation, and I started watching Halo while waiting for episode 5, and I'm not sure I'll bother going back.

To add insult to injury, one feels doubly stupid when remaining tied to the proverbial mast of stinkers to the bitter end. No more space stations for me...

I must say, Halo has turned out to be a nice surprise. Based on a computer game, and not even a computer game I've played (unlike Fallout, which I'm really looking forward to) it's turned out to be quite good. The acting's decent, the set-pieces are good, and the whole "feel" of the thing, as I remarked earlier, is closer to The Expanse than anything else I can think of. The second series, which has been released recently, is supposed to be even better. Bring it on!

That's a shame, Nick, I had hoped it would be Germany's next Dark.
I'll stick with it for the time being.

The Red Queen - Prime
Very interesting, not perfect but one of the best we've seen
From IMDB A gifted woman's intellect brings chance to lead covert European police force. But it backfires, costing her everything. Following murder at her home and kidnapped heiress, her ex-supervisor enlists a policeman's aid to reinstate her.

I've just finished " Under The Banner Of Heaven" on ITVX, and it was very good. As I've already mentioned, it's very easy to see how and why it upset the Church Of The Latter Day Saints (Mormons), especially as it's based on a true story they'd far rather sweep under the carpet and forget. Quite apart from the actual major storyline I also found it quite instructional, and the workings of the Mormon Church were laid pretty bare. MikeMusic - I'd say SWMBO might like it, and, in fact, you might well like it yourself. It was quite intense in places, but not headache-inducingly so. I'm a bit of a fan of these " based on a true story" series, especially when they're well made, and this was. Andrew Garfield, the lead, as Detective Jeb Pyre (pronounced "Pyree"), who, oddly enough, played another " religious" character, Rev. Jim Bakker, the convicted fraudster and televangelist. Mind you, he also played Spiderman, so I probably shouldn't read too much into the whole religious typecasting angle. You might also have seen him in the excellent British crime drama series " Red Riding," based on the book series of the same name by David Peace. Gil Birmingham plays his partner, Bill Taba, a Paiute Indian. You may know him better as Thomas Rainwater in Yellowstone, and earlier in his career he played George Hunter in Banshee.

God squad, 'based on a true story', Mormon church Enough to turn both of us off
I have been known to use multiple expletives about religion

God squad, 'based on a true story', Mormon church Enough to turn both of us off Me too, I don't feel inclined to watch anything based on religion as entertainment. ...and before anyone says 'Dune', dig deeper on Herbert's views on religion and politics.

I find those views a bit narrowminded. It sounds a bit like a tee-totaller not watching something because it's got alcohol in it, or someone who won't watch a film set during WWII because there are Nazis in it.
The show is not "about" religion, and, in fact it shows religion up for what it is, or at least, how it can be corrupted and subverted because of its very nature. I actually learned a lot from it, as well as enjoyed a very good story.
Oddly enough, as you mentioned him, Frank Herbert was someone who hated the control religion had over people's minds would probably have appreciated Under The Banner Of Heaven.
Anyway, I don't want to sit here defending either the program, or my (excellent) taste, so all I'll say is that as far as I'm concerned it's your choice, and your loss.

I believe 'narrowminded' was used to elicit a response.
So I have. Responded, that is.

I'm not sure yet what to make of The Gentlemen. It's more mad than first impressions suggested, and the two leads Theo James and Kaya Scodelario make a good pair of uneasy partners, with Daniel Ings causing mayhem. Bizarre onscreen graphics add to the off-kilter feel.
Is anyone else watching it?

We've finished it, I missed a good bit of the first episode and some of the 2nd so it took me a while to work out that was going on. It's ok, driven by masses of dialogue (why use 1 word when 10 will do!) Thought it so so, but ended well enough with no real surprises. If you've seen Lock Stock, Snatch etc then you've seen it all before.

The BBC have announced not one, but two new series of Shetland, with Ashley Jensen.
Upload has been renewed for season 4, which will be the final season.

I've just finished s1 of Halo, and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. Loads of cliffhangery things too, so s2 has some explaining to do. One little snippet cracked me up too. Trust me, until you hear an AI explaining - completely deadpan - what she means when she says that if they don't do it precisely right the ship will be " spaghettified," you ain't lived. Man then asks " couldn't you have warned us sooner?" to which the AI replies that " Your chances of success were so low I didn't want to worry you."

3 Body Problem is all that I had hoped it to be as a dramatisation of the best SF novels since Dune. The production is excellent and so is the cast. I like how the sweep of the narrative is maintained while some locations have changed. I won't say anything to spoil the story but rest assured it is built on an epic scale and E1 only gives you a tiny taste of what is to come.

Cold Courage - Prime
Looked interesting so we gave it a go Two Finish females bump into each other and off we go. John Simm is a conniving politician
Has clever parts, but leaves us baffled at times - the Finnish influence ? Violence to women is off the scale so beware

Martin do you remember Operation Guzheng? I believe it's the last chapter or so of the first book. I have a clip of that scene, it's stunning, from another 3 Body Problem series that was created overseas on a channel called Tencent. Have you seen this? Might be worth seeing before proceeding with the Netflix show.
