For fans of the annual Christmas ghost story, it's on BBC 2 Fri 23 Dec 10pm - 10:30pm.
This years it's Count Magnus, by M.R.James, dramatised by Mark Gatiss

Strike is well worth a punt
BBC iPlayer
The boss persuaded me into it and we watched what I thought was all of them. However 5 series are listed so maybe not
JK Rowling wrote them using a different name as they are not Harry Potter style at all
Troubled Blood takes you all over the place on an interesting journey

I agree, Mike. They are good adaptations and the actors fit the roles well. I've enjoyed them all.

Agreed, Strike is a very good slow burner.
Doesn't do any harm having both Holliday Grainger (The Capture) and Abigail Lawrie (Tin Star) in the current series.

Enjoying Strike here... up to Season 5, Episode 4. Seems to be getting better as Cormoran and Robin draw closer.

Deadwind
I preferred the shitty old 850i. Much more in keeping, rather than poncing about in that newer thing🙂 Product placement above sensible storyline went mad a long time ago, I guess.
We don't know all Nurmi's personal finances, apartment is nothing too special etc. Car tax and ownership is super high in Finland. Don't think a cop could afford. In the previous series Karppi and Nurmi discussed how low their salaries were, well, a low level drug dealer would make 3 times what they did - neither have particularly long life expectancy, the way they carry on🙂
I'm still enjoying it though😂

I did think he would be unlikely to be able to afford a Porsche Taycan.

I've just watched the final episode of Slow Horses s2; what a brilliant series. I can't honestly think of anything that surpassed it this year.
There is only one, slight thing that lets it down for me, and that's Roddy bloody Ho. He's an arsehole in the books, but not so completely unlikeable as on TV.. As is often the case with me, his voice grates on me too, yet another cod-cockney accent from a resonably well-spoken Melbourne-born Londoner.
Here he is speaking in his own voice. Obviously he needs to lose the Aussie *twang* but there's no reason to go quite so far down the rabbit hole.
Roddy Ho aside; Brilliant. Roll on s3 and s4, which have already been green lit (lighted?).

I've started watching Tim Burton's "Wednesday" on Netflix and absolutely love it. It's a development of The Addams Family character who is sent to a school for social outcasts and the new actress, Jenna Ortega is just superb in the role. The locations in Romania and sets look stunning, not much seemed to have been spared in terms of budget. Great fun and nice to watch something a bit different. I'm four epiusodes in now, and it's quite good fun, Jules, you're right.

I've just watched the first two episodes of " The Rig," on Prime Video. I only intended to watch one, but it was pretty good. It's got (at the moment) just the right amount of spooky, i.e. next-to-none, but one is always aware of the potential for spookiness. It's got a terrific ensemble cast too, made up of some of my favourite British actors, and a Canadian I've never heard of, but who has a penchant for very tight blouses. It reminds me, for some reason, of a particular Dr Who story, and I'm expecting the Ood to appear at any moment. I'm looking forward to the last four episodes, to mop the series up.

Curiosity got me through the first two episodes of "The Rig" but finishing the third last evening has found it to be a bit of a bore, actually. Great actors, filmography and sound don't seem to compensate for a predictable and tedious script. Will have to watch it to the end largely for the actor's sake but feeling increasingly empty about this one.

I wonder if it's a remake of a European production I watched an ep or two of last year about an oil rig - it was shockingly bad.

The bad news: I've finished watching Reacher The good news: Reacher was renewed for season 2 on February 7 2022 I've been enjoying Reacher as a guilty pleasure. Loved it when Roscoe stepped into the shower with him.

It's a bit of a by-the-numbers eco-horror at times, but the cast elevate it beyond the ordinary.
