Agreed, Paul. However, another downside of low profile tyres (mine are 19": 225/35 fronts, 265/30 rears) is that you cannot put winter tyres on the rims, so it would require a separate high profile set of wheels. Some high performance cars would probably not accept smaller diameter rims because they may foul the brake calipers or discs.

There's that, too. My choice, and luckily this country rarely produces weather that really challenges.

The Jag came with 16" rims, bought some 17's on ebay for a good price. Will put winter tyres on the 16's, and come spring fit some performance tyres to the 17's. I've a feeling we are in for a harsh winter.

Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.
In the end I went for Pirelli P7 Blue, an eco tyre. A rated for wet grip so should not suffer the same problems as Ali found.

I guess it could be characterised as advice of limited use!

I guess it could be characterised as advice of limited use! Well, we are in agreement about that. Perhaps it's something to do with him not having a car ?

Cagey did you constantly have your hand up in class shouting miss I know. I know.
I would bet my house on pre not needing your explanation.

If you want to continue to have a poke at members and ex-members of HFS about arguments you had there, then please do it on HFS.

If you want to continue to have a poke at members and ex-members of HFS about arguments you had there, then please do it on HFS. O dear . Continue ? my post to cagey had nothing to do with "debates elsewhere" it was [ as they all are ] self contained within the forum , indeed , it is probably an accusation best leveled at your intervention . I had a joke with pre , he took it in good faith . End of . Cageys post was mischievous , irrelevant and inane . My riposte was reasonable and proportionate . Humour gents , its in the dictionary .

I was mainly referring to your comment to pre - it almost entirely refers to an argument you were having with him on HFS before he was banned. You can call it a joke and think yourself lucky because he seemed to take it well, but I believe your intent was to create mischief and you succeeded.

So despite his denial he was "bunsen burner" Well well well I was of course guessing . The humour was in the ambiguity , which you seem to have negated . Given that ambiguity , which pre chose to maintain , he really had to take it in good faith.
Anyway , burning tryes is illegal , so it was also sound advise .

I don't know for sure if he's the same person or not, why should I care? You did though, and that's why you had a poke at him.

Hi Noddy.
Its coming up to that time of year again - So I would recommend fitting a set of Winter tyres. Of great benefit should we have snow, but equally good in the wet.
Well I never - Bunsen Burner unmasked.

Here we go with the wet weather. The spray on the M3 this morning was horrible. The real test of tyres commences, chaps!
