Some pre amps also benefit from good isolation worth a try Do you have any recommendations John? I would rather spend money on something known to work than experiment with things that might.

Not to hi-jack this thread, but does anyone over here have experience with the "Emotiva XSP-1"?
It is fully balanced
Thanks in advance

They have a good rep, Gaz, but I've never heard the preamp, only the integrated which sounded good.

Didn't they make a phono stage which was powered by an arrangement where the mains lit up a bulb that shone onto a photo-electric cell. Dare I wonder if it had a photoresistor in it?

Real sense of being "in the room" and live sounding. Air Guitar factor 12! Have one of their other Preamps on the way, otherwise I'd have snapped that one up.

Gaz, It will be interesting to read your findings of what the Densen does in front of a t amp. Whats the ETA for your valve power?

Tony, I'm really impressed by how good the Capella/Mini-1 combo sounds and how well they drives the big Eddies. Been listening a lot today and sounding seriously good. The Densen's meant to be a bit special so expecting something good. Will be a while yet Tony before Nick's done the amp. Reckon it'll be worth another board meeting when it drops in. The Densen is a delicate wee box, a bit subtle in the same way the Eddingdales are...

I have the original version which used light bulbs soldered to the MC board. Packed up every 2 years so is in the cupboard. They have now replaced with a board using blue LEDs that shine on Photovoltaic cells. This version is still available in two forms to fit the DP drive or a current Densen amp.

Look forward to it.
Ye reckon the Capella is burnt in yet?

Reckon its burn it aye. Been using it pretty much constant and I've noticed a few ups and downs in the sound.
Settled down now to sounding fab. Still surprised how good it boosts the Mini-1.
Running the Mini-1 as a power amp and disabling the volume pot made a good improvement too.
