I have found an Exposure XVII for €400. Quite tempted... There is also an Onkyo Integra p388 €450, an Audio Alchemy DLC Pre €190, and an Audio Note M1 €700.
The Audio Alchemy seems really interesting at that price.

Yes, that's the one. Thanks. I seem to have gone all inept today. Are you looking to steal my crown of ineptitude ?

The vendor has removed the add from eBay. It's still for sale elsewhere though....

Just found a Teddy Pardo PR1 for a reasonable price. This could be the one!

I think the list is down to a Croft 25R or a Project Pre RS. The Halo P5 does look interesting though, so I have dropped them a mail about the 45 day return policy, and if they are happy to ship to France. Not everybody seems to be allowed to with some products.

You know what I don't actually know :-) Ill have to speak to Glenn Croft. He said he was asked to make a batch of special moded pre amps with really nice case work, and mine is one of these, I'll get back to you. BTW whats your budget ?

I didn't want to say anything, but it looks like you were enjoying the tunes with a good bottle or two....

I was made an offer I couldn't refuse on a Project Pre RS, so I have gone for it. Now I just have to wait for delivery.

I will do. It's from a dealer, so I should be able to return it if it does not work out well.

It arrived yesterday. It's a nice compact box, sporting 3 RCA inputs and three balanced inputs. Iypt has a set of balanced outputs and a set of RCA outputs. This gives me the ability to run the Proprius balanced, and feed my headphone amp from the RCA output.
Last night was a relatively late night, as I was up listening to tunes, and I have to say that I quite like this. It's got good detail and an open soundstage. The bass seemed a little light at first, but I think this was either because it was still settling in, or the low volume due to the late night session. For what I paid for it, I'm quite happy. It's a good bit cheaper than the Croft and comes with a basic remote control, which feels really cheap.
I am hoping that it will continue improving as I get a few more hours on it. It will become a resident in my system for sure. I am also thinking of adding a linear power supply, as this is supposed to improve things nicely. Another upgrade that people have done is to add some Voskhod Rocket tubes, as the ones fitted as standard are deemed to be a bit "safe" sounding.

Some pre amps also benefit from good isolation worth a try
