And I forced my Lenovo laptop, all seems fine.

"OK," I thought, "people are having success forcing the update, I'll give it a go." I should have known better.
The computer chuntered on for the best part of an hour, rebooted a couple of times, and presented me with a message saying "Trying to recover installation." It went dark, brought up the monochrome blue Windoze logo, repeated that process, flashed the "Trying to recover installation." message one more time and them went dark again while it was "Undoing changes made to your computer."
Obviously I had to check whether this was a one-off or not. It wasn't. So, after the best part of two and a half hours I'm back precisely where I started.
I hate computers.

I still haven't fathomed what the success parameters are for the update. My Surface unwound the update rather like your experience. No, I didn't try it again!
My BRIX is happily running it.

I ran DISM - CheckHealth and ScanHealth - and everything comes back fine.. My drivers are all up to date so that's not the problem. I'll just wait until I get the "official" update prompt and see if it works then.

No - it's not that the drivers aren't updated, it's that those vendors need to amend their drivers to make them compatible.
If your system contains one (as my Surface obviously does), you get the update hold message until new vendor drivers become available.

I got no messages other than the two I mentioned. There was absolutely no 'reason' given whatsoever.

There's no specific reason given, it just says your device is 'not quite ready' for the update.

It'll be fixed before it's forced, is what we're saying, Mike.

I've just taken delivery of a Jelly Comb Bluetooth keyboard and mouse set. It's a gorgeous bit of design, featuring two Bluetooth channels for pairing with two different computers, as well as a 2.4GHz dongle for use with older non-bluetooth devices. Very slim, rechargeable and has saved me a valuable USB socket on my Gigabyte BRIX. The mouse also has adjustable DPI.

Dual BT would be really handy for myself...currently I juggle two keyboards. My only wish is that they had a narrow version without the numeric keypad - my other keyboards are around 12cms narrower.

There is a narrower version available, too.
EDIT: damn, it's not bluetooth, only 2.4GHz dongle.

I have a similar DELL one, it still has the number pad, but compresses the cursor keys etc like a laptop keyboard. Only had it a couple weeks but it's great for swapping between my work laptop on Bluetooth and PC on wireless. On issue I've found is the bit locker pin needs to be entered on the laptop keyboard as the Bluetooth connection isn't available at that point.

I did wonder about that. I must reboot and see what happens. I would hope the Bluetooth service would start to enable the keyboard and mouse.

I bought a decent mechanical keyboard, and I'd never want to return to the old days of membrane keyboards.
