It's the 2nd big Windows 10 upgrade since launch. That better?

I let the free upgrade go.
This PC runs fine on W7. Previously ran not so fine after upgrading to W10. Stan Beresford kindly sorted for me and what a lucky boy I am as my main use PC died.
I'll get W10 soon enough when on a new or new to me PC.

We've done about 40 of the upgrades to 1607 so far at work, no problems encountered.

Faster, better Continuum and screen mirroring, better Cortana, Action Centre with much better integration for other devices (including text messaging), more controls moved to Settings, Edge extensions, better ink support, Assistive technologies, Windows Hello, security updates.

A Windows 10 update has stopped many popular webcams from working. The update, released earlier this month, stops many cameras being used for Skype or to broadcast and stream footage. The cause seems to be a change in the way Windows 10 handles video so it can be used by more than one program at a time. Microsoft said it was working on a fix but has not given any date for when the patch will be available.

I did the update, and my built in webcam (Lenovo laptop) seems to work OK on Skype.

Mine (a Microsoft Lifecam) works fine. Don't use it much.

Rather than open a whole new thread I'll use the tenuous link that Windows 10 is 64 bit...and on the off-chance that you didn't already know, you can now get Firefox in a 64 bit version too. It's V. 48.0.1 the same as the 32 bit version and appears stable.

I bought a Surface Pro 4 as my new work machine a few days ago, retiring my quad-core AMD desktop and handing down the Surface 3 tablet to another member of staff. I bought the dock and type cover too so that it can be used with my 24" monitor in workstation mode when at my desk. The model is the Core i5 with 256GB storage, which is a nice compromise between performance (it outperforms the old desktop) and battery life. The OS is Windows 10 Pro (of course), now updated to Anniversary 1607 level.
So far I am very pleased with it - the size is not too big (an initial concern) but it brings the advantage of a much better type cover which forms a nice full size keyboard when in portable mode. Screen quality is immense with its class-leading 2736 x 1824 pixels and very rich colour palette.
Performance of the i5 CPU with 8GB RAM and Intel HD520 graphics leaves nothing on the table, it really is a desktop/laptop replacement. Battery life seems good so far but I haven't yet done an all-day trip to see how it fares on a long train ride and around town.
Oh, and Windows Hello is fun using the built-in webcam. It does facial recognition and logs me in as soon as I look at it. We've tested it with different people and so far it hasn't got it wrong (which is just as well when logging into a domain with administrator rights).
A truly great work tool.

Be interested to see that next time we meet up.
Take a lot to make me give up my IBM clicky keyboard and my usual 2 22" screens

But that's the point, Mike. A Surface tablet can give you the full desktop experience with a dock, normal size keyboard, mouse and big screens. Once you undock, you have a fully portable desktop-powered tablet in your hands.

Agreed, but I like to have the full kit at a desk.
That may change as I go to the desk in my office for a serious session.
Assume the Surfce is some way better than this little iPad I use grudgingly when I don't go to my desk...

Agreed, but I like to have the full kit at a desk. It does all stay there, except for the Surface. You're comparing an F1 car with a bicycle, mate.

If anyone wants to push the boat out and can't wait for a Surface Phone, the HP Elite x3 looks the right biz. This is Continuum done proud, a single device that can run all your computing needs. Lovely!

If it's as well made as the rest of the Surface line, it's going to do well.
