Good call there Martin, but I reckon less than 1 in 1,000 create it! Every person I have ever had to solve a PC problem for has never burned one

I know! It does make diagnostics and repair so much more difficult.

I just create ISO files that can be installed as a bootable disc on an external USB drive. Use the program RUFUS to do that. I got the ISO files of W8, 8.1, and 10 all tucked away for use in that manner.

Yep, I have them all but we have Microsoft Volume Licence editions which are not the same as the Home editions and cannot be used on domestic machines. The ISOs can be downloaded direct from Microsoft and it really helps us that W10 can mount and read an ISO directly.

Err, the media you burned when it was offered to you while installing W10? Just a download. I have never burned a CD or DVD.

I realise that - you must have ignored the offer just as 99% of users do We're back to needing to know what version of W10 you have on there.

I see Microsoft have been accused of dirty tricks...again. It seems they've made a change to the pop-up that tells you that you really do need to upgrade your current OS to Win10. You know the button on the top right...the red one...the red one with the cross in it...the red one with the cross in it that closes every pop-up you've ever seen that has one of those red buttons? Not any more it doesn't.

I noticed that yesterday, repairing a student laptop running W8.1. This morning, it was running W10!

Mike, do try my suggestion: put the original OS back on that machine, perform all the updates and then upgrade it to W10 again. All the times I've seen the upgrade screw up is because the original OS was already unstable and poorly maintained.

PM me and bring the laptop with you when you come to see me in case you haven't got it sorted by then. Has the laptop got a CD/DVD drive?

I think it will be great once windows 11-14 are out. I love vista right now, all the problems ironed out and hardly any annoying updates.

That is because they are withdrawing support soon

I think it will be great once windows 11-14 are out. I love vista right now, all the problems ironed out and hardly any annoying updates. W10 is the last version supposedly. There will be updates though so whether there are changes which are big enough to make it more like W11 is hard to say. I can't imagine why I'd use an old version of Windows as I have no problems with 10 and the upgrade for 5 machines costume nothing. I see Windows phones are drawing their last breaths.

I see Windows phones are drawing their last breaths. I think (hope) that it's being misreported since the Lumia brand is being retired. The imminent Surface Phone should wake up the market. I want Windows Mobile 10 to do well as it's by far my favourite phone OS.

I'm a fan of the Windows phone OS, but alas I now use a Motorola X Force as you just can't get the apps on the Windows platform and I can't ever see that changing now. With such a small share if the phone market, developers are not going to waste time writing apps for Microsoft. Additionally, now I have an Android OS it became apparent many of the Windows phone apps are cut down versions of the Apple or Android versions. I doubt I will ever switch back now.

I have all the apps I need, honestly there is nothing else I want. I'm using Tapatalk on my phone now and it's superb.
No-one is going to develop apps for WP but it won't be necessary as the W10 platform converges into one Store. It's already happening and some apps are already universal.

Sorry Martin, as much as I love Windows phone the apps are crap, but if you never use anything else, you will never know how bad they are

The apps I use a lot are Tapatalk, Fuse, News, Facebook, LinkedIn, Amazon, eBay, Instagram, iPlayer, YouTube, Spotify, IMDB, Maps, Shazam, Tado, TV Guide+ and my banking one.
As well as the built-in full Office and OneDrive apps.
Which ones are crap?
