Great result for our girls in the field hockey, beating the USA 5 - 2. From losing our first two matches that result means we've actually qualified for the next round, albeit in 4th place in our group.

It's the end of Murray and Evans. A fine last fling, they did really well.

I think gymnastics has a habit of producing young prodigies but difficult to imagine anyone eclipsing her anytime soon.

We're taking vastly more medals than would be indicated by the size of population Is this Lottery money doing the work ?

That's it, they've wheeled out the " big" sofa, installed United States Track and Field Hall of Famer and Olympic legend Michael Johnson, Dame Denise Lewis DBE, and Dame Jess Ennis-Hill DBE. The Olympics proper has begun.

Not heard the Dames commentating I'm recording BBC Red button from 6.50am on in the hope of catching the cycling road race If I remember right it moved from channel to channel 2 or 3 times during the race, estimated to be around 5 hours

You can keep the whole lot, I'm boycotting it after that ridiculous opening garbage and now I've watched a man beating up a woman in boxing . . . no testosterone test needed, give me a break. I don't need anything other than the two eyes in my head to see that's a man. Now we've got an IOC spokesperson defending it and saying it's not a transgender issue. What is it then, as it's not fair or sporting? Bunch of corrupt hypocrites . . . I love the Olympics but I can't give any support to an IOC that victimises and treats women with contempt. They can all go f*** themselves (the organisers, not participants). End of rant I'm really quite cross about it, how have we let this happen?

She has always (been) identified as female, from birth. She has always boxed as a female, and has a pretty average record, having been knocked out nine times, by other women. Like you I was incandescent with rage when I read about the IOC letting a man beat up women, but like most things, the closer one looks, and the more one investigates, the further those knee-jerk reactions recede. Khelif was assigned female at birth and it says so on her passport, which is the International Olympic Committee’s threshold for eligibility for boxing because of the rift between the sport’s governing body and the IOC.

I could have predicted you'd defend it as well . . . I didn't read anything either, I saw it and then heard the IOC spokesperson defend it. I'll leave with this and then I'm out . . .
It's wrong, it's unjust and unfair - Sharon Davies is right, the IOC is a sham. To call it anything other than cheating is a lie.

I'm not actually defending anything, more playing Devil's Advocate, and suggesting that everything is not always as black and white as we'd like it to be. As I said, I felt the same way as you, until I did a bit of research of my own.

For me transgender athletics is political correctness gone to far. Especially in something like boxing.
I know it's difficult sometimes people are hard to truly define where they belong and I don't understand the science to this

Another gold for GB, in the Mens 8 rowing this time, plus a Bronze in the Women's 8.
The usual suspects, USA and Australia, have overhauled us in the medals table now, and we're down to 5th.

Boxing controversy - what we know and what we don't. A decent summing up of the available info from the BBC for anyone who may be interested. " This is not a transgender case. There has been some confusion that somehow it's a man fighting a woman. This is just not the case. On that there is consensus, scientifically this is not a man fighting a woman." www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cye0ex43k63o
