I hate to open Olympics chat with negativity, but I have seen an hour of the most utterly disjointed, random and uncoordinated cobblers I think I've yet seen in opening ceremonies, and that's saying something as I generally don't like them anyway.
I am truly glad I didn't spend good money on it, is all I can say.
Bring on the competition!

Doesn't help that it's pissing down with rain in Paris.

I watched some of the rugby sevens last night, and it was brilliant stuff. I'm, also looking forward to the women's rugby sevens.

I don't think I've seen an opening ceremony as bad as this. What a right royal cluster. They couldn't even manage to keep the rain off the lenses.
And the dancing just doesn't end. All super low tech. A really poor advert for French culture too ... Unless you are into nightclubs and dodgy fashion perhaps. Dreadful.

I didn't see it myself, but I've been told that the ghost of Charlotte Dujardin's career galloping down the Seine was quite spectacular.

I've adored watching the Olympics since I was a kid. My mind uses them as a sort of mile marker, like check-points along my journey, to stop and reckon with myself to gage how far of off the intended path have I gotten to try to get back on track.
Quite bummed that I don't have access to them this time.

The men's rugby sevens final was absolutely electrifying, and what a surprise result for the hosts. Fiji, gold medalists for the last two contests, and tournament favourites, got absolutely steamrollered by the French in the second half, losing 28 - 7 in the end.

Quite bummed that I don't have access to them this time. Is there no public broadcaster in the US showing them? You could watch the daily highlights on YouTube, perhaps?

Well I believe NBC is broadcasting the games but I dont have cable at home only internet access through phone and unable to purchase any subscriptions at this time.
I was almost done signing up for a fre trial of CNC Gem today then realized it's for Canadian residents only lol.
Being able to tune in all hours of the day/night is very comforting. It's like unimportant ecent happening that exists outside of regular business hours and plays through both weekdays and weekends. I'll keep trying for options.

Just an FYI, the BBC only has the rights to show TWO live streams at any one time. For ALL of the Olympics you need Discovery+ In the States Peacock will stream every event live and on demand as well as offer a daily recap for viewers. Peacock will also have a fully interactive Olympics experience, letting you decide how you build your own schedule of events and catch key highlights. Want to watch more than one event at a time? No problem. A Multiview functionality will let you watch up to four sports simultaneously, letting you decide which audio feed you want. And a feature called Gold Zone will let you jump around between events and offer the option to switch to live coverage of featured events. You should find sometrhing to interest you at www.nbcolympics.com/ too.

For British flag wavers (the nice kind)
Our Josh Tarling came 4th in the Bike Time Trial Plucky Brit failure ? Damned unlucky - he had a puncture which cost him around 15 seconds and a certain bronze and a possible silver
Good news is he is only 20 and is at the start of his career

Currently, Andy Murray is NOT looking much like experienceing a glorious retirement scenario at the Olympics in the Men's Doubles. He's been broken 3 times so far, and he and his partner are a set down and a break down.

Apparently they rallied (pun intended) whislt I was making and eating dinner and won the third set in a tie-break. They were 9-4 down... and then they won 7 points on a row for an 11-9 win. Men's hockey on now. Come on GB.
