Was your ethernet cable previously non-isolated, i.e. exited a router that itself came from a cable/phone broadband service? Yes, I have coax fiber internet in the wall that connected via Coax cable into the router. The router was then (earlier) connected to my switch via cat8 ethernet cable. I hope that was the answer you where looking for?

Yes, it means that noise was probably coming in on the co-ax line and would have propagated to your ethernet line.
That could explain why it sounds better now with isolation.

Revisiting a favorite and beautifully sounding album I haven´t played since this sheep Switch/Power Supply/CAT8 and now Wi-Fi extender "madness" started... Best spent ~£170 ever! (probably hard to beat from a bang-for-the-buck perspective?) Sounds gloriously, compared to previously.

I forgot that I also have a used power cable for my amp added, for roughly the same money, which also contributes a lot of course.

Ok, having had a Youtube live performance stint again. I now start to understand what MartinT was talking about when he talked about coming to a point where the resolution becomes a "problem". (Or, something similar) I am now at a point where it sounds like everything else in the recording is louder, and a bit piercing, compared to the singing, sort of. It is like the singing is suddenly drowning in other sounds/instruments that really pops and call for attention, almost to a point that it is too much. Or maybe it is something I just need to get used to? What do you do then? I guess there is not one answer..., but I am thinking that you all been here and have suggestions for me? Is it my speakers that now is showing its limits and becomes to harsh/tiring in the treble probably? (that is what I am personally thinking) Or can a more forgiving/natural sounding Dac partly solve this? (but then it would be even more resolving...)

YouTube can be very good sound, awful or anywhere in between Especially live performances
System balance may also be a problem IE. One part of the system is very good and revealing faults in other parts of the system

I liked the sound on good recorded Qobuz music though, so maybe it is more that it now expose bad/harsh recordings more... Regardless, I now realize that I probably would like to have a bit more forgiving sound, in the treble, since I mainly like rock/pop music. That Wi-Fi extender really made a huge difference to my resolution...

Been a while since I played any Tiny desk so don't know If Qobuz is good and YouTube is not we seem to have an answer Aiming for a more forgiving sound is a poor compromise to me. Don't recommend that route Look around for the problem and post details of your system for us all to have a think about My system improvements came to a halt a few years back. Upgrades sounded no better and they should have. Changing my wonderful Isobariks was the key. The sound has improved in huge steps since then. Well balanced with TAD kit, Coherent cables and many like mains filters, grounding boxes, weights, Black Ravioli footers and more

What do you do then? I guess there is not one answer..., but I am thinking that you all been here and have suggestions for me? I have experienced this before! The cause of brightness / sharpness is usually digital noise and is worse with high resolution. Best remedies: grounding box(es), calmer cables including clock cables, better DC power supplies, shielding, vibration control. Change one thing at a time and listen.

Thank you both for the input, much appreciated! I think I also need to slow down for a while, and listen to music "instead", and let me and the gear bed in.

l agree Tobias, it's so easy to get wrapped up in the upgrade path. Enjoy the music, give the brain a break, and by a week or so you'll have better direction on improvements.

How is the listening to music going Tobias? Thanks for asking brettj , I didn´t see you comment until now. I have been very happy re-discovering all my music again, with the much improved resolution. Yesterday I decided to buy the recently released IFI LAN iSilencer since I read some interesting findings from people. This morning I put it into my cheap WiFi Extender, in an attempt to lower its noise and hopefully have less noise going into my Netgear switch. I read that people usually end up placing the LAN iSilenser earlier in the digital chain since they report bigger improvements there then if using it in the streamer, for example. Again, this was an big improvement... I have been listening to music the whole morning now and enjoying the even more detailed and smooth (analogue) sound. I honestly now feel more exited about trying a better cable (ethernet or AOC) into my streamer, than upgrading my dac, just because it feels so rewarding to see how good sound i can get from my "simple" Yamaha WXC-50.

I was on a rampage of upgrades for 12 months. Over 18 months, the only thing the same are my amp, power cables, RCA interconnects and speakers. A couple suggested I slow down a little

You will slow down when you're happy with it.

Very slow at the moment, as I’m saving for the Puritan 156. That will take to August.

Listening to some old prog favorites like Thick as a brick and Red today and are amazed how the sound is transformed after that simple IFI LAN iSilencer in my WiFi extender! The feeling is that I now want to turn up the volume much more since the sound is more natural and not shouty/sibilant, as I now realize it was earlier. The term Analogue is what comes to mind now. It also sounds like my wall materials now are made out out velvet, like the sound is much more absorbed? It is like the sound is no-longer trying to impress with its resolution but instead the resolution is just there but no-longer in my face. It is now embarrassing to realize how wrong I have been when I have claimed that it sound really good... This makes me much more humble to the fact that I still have A VERY long way to go! But it sounds amazing now I wonder how many times I need to re-discover all my favorite albums before I am "done"... Next step will probably be some door stoppers and those gel cushions that drummers use, for my equipment, which you have recommended for me.
