Fasting sounds like pain. Not for me thanks The jury is still out on the long term benefits of fasting too
Permanent diet change is the way to go

Very nice "gut friendly" lunch today.
Waitrose Chick pea and Quinoa as a base with some raw kimchi and sauerkraut. Sourdough bread with small amount of Roquefort cheese. Delicious.

Was the sourdough bread 'real' sourdough or sourdough flavour? I ask because the ones I've seen Sainsbury's sell and their sourdough pizza's are just flavoured! They still use fast baking yeast, so the whole point of the slow sourdough process, that takes care of the gluten properly, doesn't happen.. How they are allowed to get away with the dupe, I do not know!

One thing about brown rice is that I just don't like the taste in the plain cooked form. So I tend to first soak it in its water for 15 minutes or more, cook it, and then fry it in a sauce made from dried shrimps, unions, garlic, pepper and mixed herbs. A handful of microwave steamed vegetables is then mixed in to give me a tasty meat free meal. I also changed my plates to smaller ones for day to day use. The big ones only get out on Sunday.

I might try that with Quorn, which can be bought frozen in bulk. Enough garlic, ginger and chillies with some soy sauce should make it taste good.

Never used Quorn myself. But it looks well balanced. I either get one of those £2 bag of frozen mixed vegetables from Sainsbury or the multi pack vegetable bags from M&S. Each one is good enough to share or use on its own. Works out at roughly 40p per portion bag after my 20% M&S discount.

I decided to try it with what I had in the kitchen. I put garlic, ginger, chilli paste and chorizo into the wok while the rice went on the boil. Turned up the heat, added the drained rice, stir fried while pouring a goodly amount of soy sauce in.
It turned out very nice. I shall experiment with different ingredients.

I have to say that I am loving my new gut friendly diet. Difficult to describe but it's almost a sense of feeling lighter, partly perhaps due to the fact that I'm not overeating or snacking between lunch and dinner. I just feel very comfortable. I seem to have naturally fallen into a new routine where I just have coffee for breakfast, then my energy boosting porridge at lunchtime followed by a well balanced meal for dinner. Later if I'm still feeling hungry I eat fruit. In case it's useful for others, here's a handy list of probiotic foods - www.benenden.co.uk/be-healthy/nutrition/gut-food-15-foods-for-good-gut-health/If like me you need to boost serotonin, you might want to get more of the following; fortunately I enjoy them all. Fish / salmon / eggs /spinach / chicken/ sauerkraut / banana / leafy greens / green tea

The rest looks after itself including weight Works for me, an old bloke getting seemingly healthier after the dietary changes I have made over the past few years

My take on the porridge. Most days my first meal is 11:00-12:00, where I have a big bowl of oatmeal w/banana, nuts, peanutbutter, and maybe a little yogurt. Very filling and satisfies me til my 2nd and final meal around 4:30 (typical dinner menu). Now 67 years old, I have stayed in the same weight range I was in high school (140-146lbs, BMI 21).

I have exactly the same porridge each day at 12pm.
Scottish whole grain porridge with blueberries and banana added towards the end of cooking so they soften but don't become mush.
Most days will keep me going till dinner.

Certainly looks the real deal, by description and ingredients. The fresh baked M&S 'crafted' sourdough is the best I have tried, and by a country mile. So much more flavour and texture; the crunchy crust is superb. < Made over 35 hours ... with a heritage British wheat & German rye using a unique sourdough starter & stonebaked for a delicious crust >
