If you're getting red then orange, as Nick says there is no internet.
With the ER, it's best to fire up the Rendu first then the ER, or just pull the ER's DC plug then reconnect to boot it. It's vital that the Cisco SFPs sync at the same speed otherwise the Rendu sees no internet, hence no green light.

SFPs seem solidly in place
Turn on Rendu and the light is a reddy orange. Stays that way
Turn on ER, Rendu light reddy orange, wait a few minutes, still reddy orange ER lights come on as I think they should PSU for the ER gets hotter than I remember, but don't guarantee it didn't always

You didn't understand - it's not about the SFPs being securely in place, it's about them syncing to the correct speed at power-up.
1. Power up the ER. 2. Power up the Rendu. 3. Restart the ER. 4. Restart the Rendu.
Watch the ER LED, checking for comms. The Rendu light should turn from orange to green if internet feed gets through.

I added the SFPs were secure for confirmation as they had been pulled out
Yesterday was the first time it had been turned off in a while
Just powered up and restarted as you say ER on light on, yellow comms light is on, occasional flash from green
Rendu on. Only reddy orange light

No internet to Rendu. Check/restart the router. Check everything again.

ER must come on before Rendu. As I said, the SFPs must sync to the same speed and less than 10Gbps. The ER is the bottleneck device.

Any luck yet Mike? Had a similar situation last night where it took me 30 minutes of rebooting the router, Dac and BubbleUPNP to get music to play.

My heart goes out to Mike having this sort of issue it is really frustrating . Using my Vortex box based LIV Zen it is set up and running . Turn the Logitech transport on let it connect and the dCS units cycle through there testing routine and then start the music . With different players this has worked now for over ten years no drop outs . Only failure has been when switching internet suppliers . That was cured by a complete switch off and strict reboot starting with the router then SFP and Switch .

Could only happen to me
Emailed Martin Smith at Audiostore who upgraded the Rendu yesterday
... If it is not changing to Green it would suggest that: Network or optical cables are not connected or not seated correctly, or faulty. The internet signal is not present (the Green led means that the Rendu has found an internet signal) The small SD card on the rear is not latched (turn off power before pressing this in. It latches down almost flush with the chassis.) When the rear Green led is present them you would need to go to sonicorbiter.com, select the Rendu, go to Settings, select your player and press Save.
The SD card was out
Turned all on, green light Now working out the Settings as it comes up with a name I've not seen before

You're looking in the wrong place, Mike. All of these preliminary Rendu settings are in the Sonicorbiter OS.
Go to sonicorbiter.com in your browser.

When you get back into Sonicorbiter, make sure the App Switcher is set to MPD/DLNA otherwise it won't work with Bubble.
Always reboot ER followed by Rendu to ensure that the correct connection is set in the Cisco SFPs.
