Sounds like another nice upgrade in the system performance Damien. Thanks Matt.... Subs mod will be next. I am really over the moon with the set up, played MartinT favourite artist Rufus Wainwright 🤣 album 'Unfollow The Rules', l had never even noticed the placement of the strings on certain tracks, this used to sound so forced prior to all the recent changes... Excellent

Got a excellent results with the bypass cap change on my subs, Zero effect on mids, cleaner if anything, probably due the MA not having to having to handle anything below 100hz,there will be a bit of burn in time..However it's nice to have the extra weight of kick drums back.
Special thanks to John, if l had added the Puritans before his visit, l'm guessing John and myself wouldn't have picked up on the weak link of the Bypass caps in the Tannoy crossover... Happy Days

Great news Damien. Did the crossovers go back into the Tannoy’s ok due to the size of the new caps?

🤣 ... Yes just about... the clarity caps are ridiculously big, and nearly the size of the crossover enclosure itself. Still they are doing a great job, and as you predicted has started to open up further after a few hours of use. l gave the album Howe 2 a spin, it sounds amazing, lts, also an album that could grate on my system, however it was a joy to listen too, that no sooner had it started,it was over.... Always a good sign.

lt's been a few weeks since my last biog, and apart from being busy in work and other aspects,l haven't felt the urge to post every improvement of my set up,like a IBS bowel movement.
Adding the Clarity Caps to the Tannoy VS10BP subs has brought some big gains, and everything including all the other mods are paying off.
Today saw the return on my Rustins G Shield ground box, this hasn't been used for months, but l was curious to just plug it in and give it a go. Previously it used to just connect to the mains earth pin in my old distribution sockets, and it was pretty effective. What with the Puritan handling the mains side,l decided to connect the earth to the outer earth of my unused Gustard R26 USB input.l know John is a massive fan of this approach, and implemented it when he had is R26.
Well... Listening it was one of those moments of... I should have tried this a year ago. What a nice improvement, further darkness.. where notes just seemed to hang on longer, yet speed of delivery seemed faster, and panning back and forth in production, seemed easier to follow. This is one tweek that staying.

Does this mean more ground box builds are on the way Damien?

Does this mean more ground box builds are on the way Damien? Well never say never... l think it may be the occasional thing l would add, possibly ground boxes in amps next, but as it stands ,it will probably be a Kemp SNS next. TBH apart from leads, perhaps the additional fuse or accessories... l'm nearly at the end of my Journey.

Don’t say that Damien, otherwise one of us has to pick up the slack on upgrades to keep everyone entertained.

Well...Thats another mod crossed off the list. Furutech Gold Socket by Damien Read, on Flickr Finally fitted my Furutech Gold Unswitched sockets. A little bit of mucking around, as although they are double sockets, they are two singles mounted together, meaning l had to daisy chain both sockets for each wire. It replaced a switched MK double socket, and after inspection looked like a pretty good socket. Firstly, yes is this definite upgrade, subtle in some aspects and noticeable on others. The subtle.. smoother mids and highs, slightly less harshness...slightly. Noticeable... The slam, deeper lower bass, also cleaner easier to follow. So can't complain about this mod, another one off the lost, and a positive outcome.

You have put a lot of work into the system and I am glad it's all paying off for you.

A minor and quick update before I go to work. My second Amphenol DAC cable arrived this week, after the knockout results with the N18Pro, l thought l'd swap out the Cisco cable for the Amphenol on my NAS server.
Well l can report a small or even tiny improvement only, slightly wider soundstage, and to be honest.. l was, kinda listening for differences, it sounded excellent, but also did with the Cisco in place. Of course it may change or improve over the coming days.
I think this does back up my suspicions with the N18Pro being really fussy with what SFP DAC you use.
l have to admit, l'm looking forward to MartinT taking delivery of the Gustard X26 Mk3 and hearing Tony's views on the Gustard X30.
Next up... a Kemp SNS for myself

Where a DAC cable wins on the direct connectivity, and especially in dynamics, it loses in the lack of any isolation between source and destination. It's a bit of a lottery as to whether it will bring improvements and depends on isolation happening elsewhere along the chain.

l have had quite a few spinning wheels of late, looks like my elderly Mum will be living with us permanently, as you can imagine, that can be minefield, phone calls emails... all a bit stressful, but at least we can keep a eye on her.
So on Sunday, l managed to grab a mega bargain,l purchashed a Airlink ASF3000 Balanced transformer.l have to say l'm well impressed, definitely hear deeper into the background, but the biggest thing is the lower end, set up seems to have more, prat and grip, floor toms.. really sound like... floor Tom's, but bass guitars are more easily followed.. Well impressed... that on paper shouldn't make a big difference, but does really does. The Airlink now runs my Puritan PSM156, what's interesting, even tracks like Bela Fleck & The Flecktones "Sex ln a Pan" that have a tremendous bass output and deep bass, but put simply, the Airlink just makes the low end behave without making the room take off,by really having a grip on things.
