l tried to make more of a permanent home for the Puritan, then l hit a snag, due to not being a able to pass a cable through a gap,it meant rewiring a IEC plug. Then l swapped out both Fuses on both of the Putitans supply lead to Titanium Sluggo.. really pleasing, more air space ...natural l guess, and the Bass extension.. Wow.. l played a Katy Perry track from her latest 143 album, you would have sweared l had Floor standing speakers. So very pleased... l've got plenty more baby steps ahead. Shame most of my afternoon was taken on the practical side, rather than listening and chilling... More mods and hopefully a update tomorrow.

Well sadly no real update, l was hoping to put the Puritan Groundmaster into action, but my delivery from screwfix delivered the Earth Rods, but not the clamps.
l also started work on my Sandbox isolation platform... Hopefully should work well... System is sounding better than ever, l am starting to hear into recordings deeper than ever, I played Queens "Bicycle Race" as my son requested it, my jaw dropped, l'd like never heard it before ,in such depth, speed and clarity... l haven't played it for years, so it was a nice surprise.

Been busy this morning, added chalky to sandbox. Fitted the Sorbathane Feet to R26... Nice improvement that was resulted in the cleaning of mids, same as when John added his BR. And lastly finished and added one of the groundmasters for the Puritan... And that again has been a nice lift, more of ambiance of recordings, and less smudge, on accompanying instruments. As an example, one of my test tracks "Davy" by Danny Wilson is a great track for separating all the acoustic parts, but as l have found out, it's the track that just keeps giving. The track can really sound congested on many set ups,for the first time, the drummer that plays brushes is not mushed in with the guitars,it's been getting progressively better with my mods, but the combination of the sorbothane pads and the Puritan Groundmaster has really paid off. My updates to follow, l still have another Groundmaster to wire in. Fit a Furutech DPS 4.1 cable to the Puritan PSM 156, a Sandbox platform and FOq tape... Plenty to keep me busy. For those interested here is the link for the Sorbothane Pads. l doubled up on mine due to height, and fix to bottom the R26 unit, similar to how BR suggest. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/223987667822?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=u5QHXOs5R3i&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=BciNUykhRZm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Sorbothane made a difference for me but the very best VFM was RDC cones, further improved by cups and bases

But interesting what can be done on the cheap Mike. The sandbox will be very interesting, but the delay is simply waiting for materials to dry, so l'll be sanding the Chalking tomorrow. Ready for spraying the primer.

RDC Cones with cups and bases are very good but not so easy to get hold of now. I combine them with Black Ravioli directly under the component. Best mix of isolation and damping.

Black ravioli with RDC underneath ? Something glued in place ? No, I use RDCs under the first level shelf and BRs directly under the component. I don't use them physically together.

I've had a few issues the 156, if you use it vertically the larger Furuteh plugs tend to pull out if you have a more manley power cable, and in horizontal mode the can 'drop out' dispite that flap arrangement. Work ok though sound principles

I use sorbothane pucks to support IECs that tend to sag or pull out too easily. I don't find the Furutech G-type plugs fall out, though.

This is why all my equipment is currently levitating.

Work ok though sound principles Thanks Tony, The unit is now horizontal, and l'm using Viborg plugs, but l'm aware of the moving plugs in sockets, l'll be ditching them soon for Viborg Schuko sockets.. lt's on my ever expanding list of mods to attend to 🤣

So part 2 of my Sunday morning mods... l finished the 2nd installation of the Groundmaster for the 2nd Puritan 156.
As you probably predicted.. this as given a nice boost to the NUC Server side of things, smoother, just more naturally, and similar to the 1st installation,we talking noticeable, but small gain. l had a nice time, marveling at the music sounding natural, like real musicians.
So whilst l was basking in my audio dream, l set about making the new Furutech DPS 4.1 lead... Man o Man, this is a monster to work with, you have to wrestle the plugs on. The Viborg Gold Copper 13 amp went on a treat, but the C16 connection into the Puritan not so snuggly, l will have to look closer at this, may be a slight miss match with the sockets.
Anyway that didn't stop me enjoying a further improvement, more air and certainly more grunt from the lower end that's got me wondering do l even need floor stander speakers.

I thought I would provide you with some photo's and guildance with the mods I am currently undertaking on my Puritan PSM156. Please note, if you decide to undertake any of this mods, it is TOTALLY at your own risk. Good.... now we have got that out of the way... I am doing a basic socket swap out of the PSM156. The standard 13amp are nothing special, so I have opted to go for Viborg VE01G Copper Gold Plated Schuko Sockets. 20240930_100632 by Damien Read, on Flickr Normally Puristan supply a small torque tool for removal of the screws, naturally you remove the top and the side screws, and keep in a safe place 20240930_101907 by Damien Read, on Flickr Using the same torque, you undo one of the 13 Amp sockets. It goes without saying you need to know what wire is what!, thankfully it's pretty easy, but always double check!. Green is Earth, Neutral is Blue and Live is Red. Removal is pretty straight forward, but I would advise, removing the sockets first, as you can then you can tilt the socket to a slight angle and get your screw driver in to release the cables 20240930_102207 by Damien Read, on Flickr Fitting the Viborg is also similar, however I suggest mounting the sockets back on first, then placed the wires back in, The Viborg sockets have a gold grubb screw, which is easily accesable from the top, they supply a allen key for you to tighten your wires back into place. 20240930_110945 by Damien Read, on Flickr 20240930_110935 by Damien Read, on Flickr Next and this is totally optional, I managed to purchase some Fo.q stickers (Thanks Matt For Helping) This is a whole different discussion, but the top and bottom of this Fo.q is no longer in production, making it very hard to obtain, have a Google about it, I had never heard about it until 3 weeks ago. The photo below is with the Fo.q added to the caps, I haven't added them to the back ones, as the top of the caps are designed to vent, i don't want to be blocking that! 20240930_115240 by Damien Read, on Flickr So thats the sockets taken care of. You may have noticed I have left one unmodded, I've done this for a reason for testing of new quipment or a vistior bringing a component for me to listen too. 20240930_111146 by Damien Read, on Flickr And just as you thought everything was going well.... Enter the Furutech FI-33 C19 socket,it's copper based gold. Sadly this superb socket is roughly 2mm taller and wider than the one coming out. So time for the grind stones,to wider to hole slightly. Again... I shouldn't need to say this, but this will produce metal dust, I suggest placing and sticking a bag on the inside of the unit, to stop any metal dust entering the unit, and vacum up afterwards 20240930_111825 by Damien Read, on Flickr I will try to post the second part ASAP...But once thats socket is in...It's complete.
