Just an update pic of my mesh cages. With the heat of the x26pro on certain areas of the PCB I was having trouble with the insulation tape that isolated the bottom of the copper mesh cage from PCB Trying another tape option atm which is holding slightly better. The old cardboard boxes with copper tape that I used before and which caused the build up of extra heat inside those boxes, which was my concern is now gone using mesh. Sound wise?.. my previous post when I put the copper wrapped cardboard boxes in still stands now with the copper mesh on board. Looking really good. Do you have a plan for the next step?

Thanks Matt and I see you've been busy experimenting with the mesh as well.
Damien has recommended that I move the x26pro PSUs to their own case, as the benefits are worth the effort.

Early morning post today. As l'm typing, the addition of the Ugreen CAT 7 cable are really something special, they really do make the BIG difference.
Been a excellent week, with Matt " The Science Officer" getting to grips with his mods.. Excellent when things out, and it's made us discover difference materials and methods. l'm looking forward to his next component.
Myself and atoz are at that usual frustrating period, waiting on spares to arrive, so we can push on with other mods. But thats life l guess..
Another reason for the early post, we will be having a new member to the family. Around Christmas, we lost our Dog Belle, but this afternoon we welcome Watson, who is a Hound,he's a Six year old rescue dog,and apparently Greek. We had him briefly last week, and he's seems pretty chilled... so we'll have a new boss in the house.
l'll post a photo on my next blog, but please... no fan mail... I have to much from the Amazon Rainforest to go though for myself 🤣 "Jules you joker 😊"
Okay, that's it.

What's the Greek for "Here, Watson"?
Congratulations on the new acquisition and I hope he becomes a music appreciator.

How long before Watson is enrolled in Dac modification classes? Great to hear you have a new dog Damien.

So my very cheap Magnetic Meter turned up. Just thought l'd share some readings, early days, and a interesting results. Next to enclosure by Damien Read, on Flickr This is the reading next to my aluminium enclosure. with CN3190 by Damien Read, on Flickr Now with CN3190 Tape.. a slight reduction. with Ultraperm 80 by Damien Read, on Flickr Lastly a bigger reduction with Ultraperm80 which is a thicker material, all for future mods, although I would imagine the materials will work better, with closer contact to the transformers. Interestingly CN3190 is Has better rejection for RF due to Copper content.

Nice tool, Damien. I might want one of those to go with my noise meter.
Could you let us have the link, please?

Thanks Martin,l must have missed that post. Looks like a great bit of kit. And interesting that stuff like Russ Andrews increases noise. l think this is a great investment without getting your hands dirty. Excellent

no lol
I have a couple of those types for taking to clients, one really fancy pants Guessometer, but it is giving you an indicator and that is helpful with what you chaps are achieving, as always guys keep up the good work

Thanks Martin,l must have missed that post. Looks like a great bit of kit. And interesting that stuff like Russ Andrews increases noise. l think this is a great investment without getting your hands dirty. Excellent Whilst being guided to remove signal squashing clip on ferrites from my digital leads opening a world of improvement by HD Music & Test. Quietening mains noise seems to be a significant part of the reason for the improvement in my system, I did see that thread & posts from MartinT & others whilst avidly reading all I could find on the subject when I joined TAS. i picked up on a quote in the sub entry on "Cat Loving Blog" iFi noise enhancement & suppression iFi AC-iPurifier "It is difficult to determine whether this suppression is due to the Y capacitor inside the iPurifier" I read up on Y capacitors, discovering that Y1 safety capacitors were best for my purpose, they can deal with the voltage of mains supply 500v plus & deal with common mode EMI/RFI that is flowing in the same direction in 2 wires & will fail open circuit, Since they are passive they should only filter noise & not add anything. I made up several mains plugs with - to ground & + to ground using 2 x Y1 capacitors I chose not to connect X class capacitors to deal with differential interference, that is noise flowing in opposite directions in 2 wires since X capacitors strapped across live & neutral fail short circuit which could have expensive results. Whilst my home made noise suppression may not have been as easy to apply or quite as effective as some commercial filters, together with clip on ferrites that to an extent inductively coupling cable wiring helping to deal with differential interference the copper shielding & Y1 capacitors on power blocks & mains leads has been very effective in removing or preventing noise entering the system & to me importantly in total cost less than a single alternative commercial filter, enabling to liberate funds buy/fit Stack Auva 50's under my speaker stands. Not to be easily dismissed either is the satisfaction factor derived from my DIY solution has made to keeping my 1940's brain active....

Suggestion for the day, instead of retrofitting the rfi conatining devices, why not just rehouse the circuit board etc into a proper emi chassis, much better results plus a lot less hassle just a thought chaps...............DIY 3D CAD is pretty simple imho

In a perfect world... And additional knowledge and money 💰 for rehousing then yes.
Trouble is some boards share sections, then you have to source board connectors. Many users want to retain the look of the component as well. I'd imagine it could be costly direction. And it depends on what components etc.

Well... It had to happen... Sadly last night, l managed to cook one of my R26 transformers, totally my fault. While l was using Ultraperm 80, a sharp end, pearced into one of the windings.l was just to ham fisted.
Of course I am gutted, but l just have to where "The idiot" hat for a while.
The positives l can give you.. l managed to listen to 15 minutes, and before the big pop and silence, it sounded fantastic, and would say another notch up again.
l think l will be ditching the transformer covers, and construct a Ultraperm box over the top, once l repair the damage.
Hope you guys are having a better Bank Holiday than me.

Drag out the positives from it
I promise myself I won't do that again in similar circumstances
