I used to love yoga classes but had to stop due to the risk of further damaging my lower back with its herniated disc. Since I have now miraculously become pain free for some time I decided to see if I could start again, so I booked a private lesson with my old teacher just to get an idea of how my body would respond.
It was the first time I had done any yoga in maybe 7 or 8 years and it was an absolute revelation. My back held up perfectly and my core strength was actually quite respectable in the circumstances, so all of those floor exercises that I did as instructed by my physio for months on end really paid off. I had completely forgotten what yoga felt like. The result is a gentle healing energy coursing through my body and I walked home afterwards as relaxed as I have been in months ... or even years?
It's difficult for anyone to appreciate what this could feel like unless you've experienced it too but I cannot tell you what this means to me, to be able to access this power and positivity again. It's crucial for both my physical and mental well-being. I intend to do another couple of private lessons to give myself the confidence to join the group class I used to go to, which thankfully is still going strong.
If I can get fitter as planned my long term dream is to be able to go on one of the yoga holidays abroad that my teacher runs. This I'm sure would be an incredible experience.

Keep at it
I went through years of pain and problems with various parts of my body
An hour a day is a worthwhile investment for me. I'm allergic to pain Plus I enjoy it and the time passes so quickly. Music on of course

What we need is a constantly moving undulating, sort of slow wave motion moving reclining sofa!🙂 Constant movement and relaxing in one! Could also have massage pads and electric shock (weak) stimulation feature 👍😂 Drinking lots of water helps. You can only hold on so long before you have to move to go to the loo The New Scientist report was disappointing promising answers but showing that the studying had only just started, in scientific terms. Agreed. A relatively short input into body care - loosening up, stretching, balance, mobility, strengthening, workout and then cool down and stretch can have enormous rewards in being able to lead an otherwise normal pain/discomfort free life. We are all different so different strokes apply. Mine is while watching tennis. Great to be able to stream any match from anytime, pretty much.

Steve makes me remember my recent discovery
Tense and relax problem areas while sitting down, driving, standing etc Seems to work, probably supplies blood to the area

Absolutely - I would urge anyone even slightly curious to find a local class and give it a go. Like everything, the quality of tuition is so important - experience really counts for a lot.

There are certain exercises that I really enjoy - nothing hard core Yoga - so anyone can do it
EG As simple as lying down flat on my back, moving my arms above my head flat on the floor in line with my body
For those toying with the idea go along and watch a class before joining

I really enjoyed yoga but found the balance positions the most difficult to maintain.
Must find another local class to attend.

Balance is part of it. The stretching and keeping my old body supple is no.1 for me. Self preservation

A really good massage helps my back enormously. Because I drive a lot and have a desk job, I walk around at work (big campus) and try to keep the body supple. However, last week a masseuse hit the pain level several times, causing me to squirm, but boy did it help me. It does help that I've lost a bit of weight recently, too.

I get a deep tissue or sports massage and instruct them to really put the pressure on. It can bring a tear to my eye but I really feel the benefit afterwards.

My sister gave me the kick up the pants I needed.
She mentioned my long walks might not be the best thing. I sat down and had a damn good think.
Seems I was only pretending I was intermittent fasting as my morning practices were breaking it, making it wholly ineffective.
Adjustments made. And from mid July to now, 16kg has disappeared.
Swimming, walk/running, weights, HiiT, SiT and some MiCT. Most of the HiiT and SiT have been in the pool aquajogging.
HiiT = high intensity interval training SiT = sprint interval training MiCT = medium intensity continuous training
