Yes, I've looked at the Ketogenic diets briefly. I thought you had to fast for long periods of time though. I'll have to have a look in more detail, the idea of using fat rather than carbs for energy appeals to me. Thanks for reminding me.
Also, I wonder how a Ketogeinic diet would work with being vegetarian or vegan.

Fasting isn't necessary for a keto diet. It certainly lends itself to fasting, since you're already in ketosis, so it's easier to fast, but you can do one without the other. I used to fast, but it didn't suit me very well since I was also trying to gain weight.
I think it would be fine to also be veggie or vegan - the key thing is just to cut out carbs and replace the calories with healthy fats. I get a lot of my daily calories just from plant-based oils (olive, hemp, flax, coconut).

Remembered a few other points and following on from Steve above
I enjoy eating everything I eat. Took many years and still not settled. Find what you like and enjoy it
Water is very important. Tap water or a Brita filter should be fine. I get up early and do yoga and pilates for just over an hour and drink 2 pints of water while doing it, before breakfast.
All food is either good for something or other or I like it !
Breakfast Shredded wheat, walnuts, milled flaxseed, blueberries, raspberries, red grapes, strawberries, half a banana, soya milk. Lots of colours which could appeal to some
Dog walk then back for black tea, probably not so good, home made bread, toasted with low salt Natex for B12 Natex, Marmite and similar can be used in all sorts to give the taste some bite.
If I'm here real coffee from a machine with soya milk. One piece of dark chocolate More later

I've just added a pack of this stuff to my smoothie shopping list. (£3.00 at Sainsbury's) www.packd.co.uk/products/avocado Apparently they fall under the umbrella of "healthy fats". I'm toying with the idea of vanilla extract, too, but it adds a Hell of a hit to the price; around 35p to 40p per smoothie if used a teaspoon at a time as per the recipes I've seen.

I did buy a Yoga DVD but it was too advanced for me as a beginner. Any recommendations ? The water in this area is excellent Mike, no need for filters, and no exceuse for not drinking it. Tried Avacado once Paul, didn't like it. I must try it again as it does contain healthy fats. I will also investigate vanilla extract.

The vanilla extract is purely for flavouring, as far as I know, it has no health benefits, so I'll probably give it a miss. The fruit should be flavoursome enough on its own.

Thanks Jules, that might suit me just fine. One I never thought of. I was thinking 16hrs fasting/8 hours eating. I have to live with whatever fasting technique I choose long term and I'm looking for something simple like the one you've suggested. I'm starting a new diet next Monday - I've put most of the weight back on. 86kg today, looking to get down to 80kg. For some reason I struggle to get lower than 82kg usually.

I used to eat ungodly amounts of rice and other carbs everyday, but after cutting them out, the cravings - which had really dominated my relationship with food - slowly subsided. I'd liken it to kicking a physical addiction. Now if I make a curry I just use cauliflower rice, which is a pretty convincing low carb substitute, and super easy to make.

It's just grated or blitzed cauliflower, nothing fancy. Takes a few minutes in the microwave.

Got my blender, Goji berries, Chia seeds, and honey. Sainsbury's will be (hopefully) delivering the fruity stuff on Saturday. along with the oats, oat milk, almond milk, and plain Greek yoghurt. If the idea does " take" and I'm enjoying my smoothies I'll probably step up to a Ninja blender, which one will depend on how flush I'm feeling and what sort of bargains are knocking about . It'll match my Ninja Foodi multi-cooker, and Ninja Air Fryer, both excellent bits of kit. While we're on the subject of " healthy cooking," I've had healthy grills back from the days of the early George Foreman grills, they made sense to us, with Jeanette's heart condition. They do make a heck of a difference with things like steak, bacon, sausages, any meat products that you'd normally grill, or fry in fact. The amount of fat (and other " gunk") that gets channelled away from your food is quite scary sometimes. I'm currently using a Cuisinart - which doubles as a Panini maker - and between that and the air fryer I can't remember the last thing I fried conventionally, other than the beginnings of an actual stir-fry, and that's usually just a couple of spritzes of avocado oil in the wok. Next subject - Bone Broth. I've been enjoying this Baxters stuff of late, and I'm thinking of investigating the "real" thing. Does anyone have any knowledge they'd care to share? The good stuff isn't cheap for the initial outlay, and it rounds out to about a quid a shot using the commonly recommended 10g per serve. I'm not keen on shelling out thirty-five quid without some good evidence to back it up. I think that's probably enough for now.
