Another year slips on past.
Some bright spots somewhere in between but also some dour doings. May the thought of a happy new year be more of a reality.

It was a bad year all-round for me. After a cyber attack at work in April, I experienced the highest levels of stress I've ever known recovering what we could find amongst the devastation of deleted servers, files and backups. All a legacy of the mess I encountered when I started the job in 2020. We only just finished the final bit of restructuring to the network a week ago.
I also had my meds changed, which required a lot of rebalancing to find my optimum dose again.
Otherwise, not much ability to see friends or socialise, but that's common to everyone.
Not a year I shall remember with pleasure.

Every step forward this year seemed to be followed by two steps in a random direction. Hopefully, next year, I'll get some resolutions and a lot less government - both central and local - paperwork battles, phone battles, Zoom and Teams conferences where only three out of four of us, or two out of three of us, turn up, and... what was the other thing..? Oh yes, no more fekkin' virus mutations, all of which will improve both my physical and mental health.

This year the glass has been decidedly half-empty.
Next year I am hoping it cannot be depleted any further.

Pretty good year for me when I confirmed what an anti social punter I am. Happy listening to music nearly always on my own. The mods made in the year helped the sound improve even further. The Bluetooth adaptor allowing me to send music from my laptop to the system is a real plus Both me and the boss avoided Covid.
Took the step to becoming fully vegan, from about 95% and added all sorts of food after discovering biome. Taking Vitamin D probably a factor in feeling good
15'c and a lovely sunny day on the 31th December.
Committed to scrapping my lovely old Saab 9000 today. Probably my last ever Saab, maybe my last car...

While I certainly understood everyone's battles with coping with the virus, in whichever way they saw fit or had imposed on them, I didn't think of it much.
I moved a number of times this year and was just trying to deal with that. Moved from my long standing home in September 2020, then moved in March 2021 and then moved again just recently at start of December.
I look at 2021 very fondly because during all of the moves I just stopped going home after work, started running and exercising at business parks, learned to see my car as my real home and try to stock it with survival equipment and any gadget that's useful to have in a car.

Well I’m already fucked with 6 stents, a triple bypass and one failed, but still here and keeping as happy as I can.
Like Mike I just became more anti social, most people annoy me anyway so not mutch lost on me.
Missing skiing and having a nice holiday with her indoors.
Oh and I have survived a dose of covid.
So let’s hope that 2022 is better for everyone😃

Have had some tough times, but this has been the worst five months of my life.
Work, family, marriage, pastimes...
Ah well, at least things can't get much worse (fingers, legs, eyes crossed...)

It seems that most of us have had our challenges in 2021.
Here's hoping for a better one for all of us.
Health, happiness and long life to you all.

Well, it was a bit shit, wasn't it?! I am tired of seeing people dying and being made ill because of decisions made by fools.
The thing I have missed the most for the last two years really, has been the opportunity for travel. Three major trips booked and cancelled has been hard to deal with, not to mention all of the ones that have been dreamt up, discussed and planned, but never booked. A major and long awaited job opportunity turned to dust in my hands this year and there have been health problems to deal with too, so yes I hope that the next year brings better luck.
But, having said all of the above, I know that I am so much fortunate than the vast majority of folks in this world. I do what I can, where I can, but I just wish the people who have it in their power to make real, solid improvements for those people would wake up to their responsibilities.
It all makes boxes of electronic components seem so trivial in comparison.

Yes, one to forget (I think we all agree)
My mental, health has been up and down like a yoyo. There was a cloud lifted when HS2 was cancelled past my house. Not much else to celebrate. The last week of 2021 I spent isolated with bloody covid.

A mixed year for me It was frightening to see how many people were dying each day. I think nearly 2000 a day. The kind of casualties you might get in a war. I carried to achieve some great goals for the people I support, Including getting a person with Learning difficulties into a job and explaining how you make love. Not something I ever imagined doing, and his wife is now expecting. I also helped professionals gain counselling skills around loss, grief and bereavement. I have started a relationship, and that is going well

I made a "not New Year's resolution" as I know they don't work for me. I really needed to try and lose weight but without stressing myself over setting targets, none of which work for me.
I hit a high of over 90kg last summer. There were mitigating circumstances, especially with work stress. However, I was NOT PLEASED and had to do something about it.
Well, I've been chipping away at it slowly, so that my body didn't notice and respond by fighting back. This morning I weighed in at 86.0kg, just hopefully tipping into the 85s shortly. That's the lowest I've been since chemotherapy in 2009. I'll keep going with my not-resolution strategy.

Nice job Martin.
I peaked at 90kg some time ago but was generally around 86kg for a long time. With a day on / day off fasting diet I could generally go under 80kg but would always gradually put the weight on. Now it seems I'm stable at just over 78kg - I've managed to maintain this weight by using a 5:2 diet adapted for my own needs.

Article in New Scientist (Oct 2018) went into fasting which I thought was an established thing I was very interested to read it Good for weight loss Could be dangerous for some and no long term data Ketosis could be good or bad for the body long term

Fasting is great for short term weight loss but important to get good protein - some people forget this. I have lean meat and oily fish for proteins.
I'm not fasting on my new weight maintenance diet. Eating very carefully for 5 days of the week - breakfast, no lunch or snacking, one main meal at dinner, very low carbs, no sugars or alcohol; then on the weekend I'm allowed a few treats.

I be doing a five day fast two days, not fastening. Find that works well for me.
