An error in my ordering means I accidentally ordered 32GB of Kingston Fury, but it was close to the same price as the Crucial. Ah well, the Lenovo now goes like stink so I'm well happy.

I've just finished the 50th Windows 11 migration at work today. Success seems to be all about the preparation, so here are some tips:
- make sure the Windows 10 installation is clean. Perform all waiting Windows Updates and restart - run cleanmgr.exe, tick all the boxes to delete all unnecessary files - make sure there are no missing or error condition drivers in Device Manager - make sure you have at least 30GB of free disk space - make sure you have at least 8GB RAM
Run the standard Windows 11 setup and it will chunter for quite a while before offering to keep your programs and files. If it errors with unsupported CPU or TPM, go to regedit.exe and add the bypass hack:
- Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\Setup\MoSetup - Add a new Dword32 key, name it AllowUpgradesWithUnsupportedTPMOrCPU - Give it the value 1
Re-run the Windows 11 setup. This should work unless your machine doesn't even have TPM 1.2, in which case it's junk I'm afraid.
After Windows 11 has been installed:
- Perform Windows Updates again. There will be some more waiting, restart - run cleanmgr.exe in elevated (Administrator) mode, tick all the boxes to delete the old version of Windows (you should recover 20-30GB of disk space) - open an elevated Command window, run winget upgrade --all (to update all your applications)
Et voila, you now have a clean, faster running Windows 11 installation.

My experience with W11 so far has been entirely positive apart from very early releases that had too much dumbing down (a typical Microsoft desire to remove stuff that people use). That's now been fixed and the additions in functionality since then have improved the OS without bloating it unduly.
Unprompted feedback from users at work after upgrade are "it's fast" and "everything works" which is nice to hear. Of course, as we are using the registry hack on some older machines we are only buying a year of compliance but it helps to spread the capital budget. Computers are not as cheap as they used to be.
The important things in business use are productivity, security, compatibility. The first two come with W11 and the third is compromised only by the hardware platform requirements, which is fair enough in order to achieve the security goal.

2nd hand buyers need to be aware if their W11 machine was upgraded from W10 without your steps above
Otherwise could be a door stop even sooner than 12 month

Simple: all you need from the specs are to check for a) TPM v2.0 and b) the exact model of CPU to look up here (Intel) or here (AMD). Unless you want something very cheap or short lived, don't buy any PC lacking the above.

And correct me if I'm wrong
they weren't even first into the cloud....

Nope! What they had was a significant personnel change: they got rid of the useless Steve Ballmer (Vista) and replaced him with Satya Nadella (hugely enlightened and saw the importance of the cloud from day one).

I got Windows 11 24H2 into both my machines this morning. As I was forcibly running setup of the 24H2 ISO on the desktop I went to do the same with the laptop only to find the 24H2 update waiting for me.
Lots of small and security updates and the big change is to how Windows Updates works.
"Windows 11, version 24H2 represents significant improvements to the already robust update foundation of Windows. With the latest version, you get reduced installation time, restart time, and central processing unit (CPU) usage for Windows monthly updates."

If you haven't used Phone Link yet, the integration in 24H2 is excellent with your phone's folders showing directly in File Explorer.
