The real danger with a thread like this is that you start researching. Stacked 57S are probably my ultimate goal.....another pair of 57S and frames to put them in may be quite a bit more expensive than a super tweeter but the itch just wont go-the seed has been planted.

Stacked 57s and ribbon tweeters was the preferred way of doing things across the pond.

The ultimate expression of stacked Quads was the Levinson HQD system. 24 inch Hartley woofers, 2 pairs of 57s and a pair of Decca ribbons. Six Levinson ML2 power amps up their jacksie. That's the way to do it!

No-one could argue that the Frugels aren't prettier though!

Yeh, I must admit that Steves speakers are stunners.

Im guilty of a bit of thread crapping-posted on a previous thread I had started to hopefully get it moved to the speaker section. The Frugels as James says can look stunning in a minimal impact sense.
Mods my apologies...

On the topic of Frugal Horns, has anyone experience of the larger XL series?
I'm very interested in building a pair, and am tempted to go for the Frugal Horn XL's with markaudio 10P drivers. Obviously the cabinets are a bit larger, but they still look like they will be an attractive option. I really like the idea of a full range driver with no crossover.

Should we not distinguish between the Electricbeach speakers and the rest? Maybe a different thread?

Aren't the Electric Beach Frugal 3's just a pre-constructed version of the Frugal Horn 3? I understand that many/most Frugal Horn's are self constructed either from kits or just the plans. They are all fundamentally the same, built to the same design - mainly the drivers differ from constructor to constructor. This thread has already drifted off into Quad ESL territory etc. so asking about Frugal Horn XL's seems reasonable. But I can always start another thread.

Sorry mate, didn't mean to come across as heavy if it seemed that way. You right in terms of the Frugals and Electricbeach frugals are broadly the same but I know that there is extensive work (understatement here) to make them sound remarkably better. And the finish, well I've never seen such care are perfection.
